The amenity value of proximity to a National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in central Middlesex County, Massachusetts is estimated and compared to the values of proximity to five other open space types, including agricultural land, cemeteries, conservation land, golf courses, and sport/recreation parks. A hedonic model is used to explore the relationships among residential property values and proximity to these distinct types of open space. Open space characteristics in the empirical model include measures of continuous distance from each property to the nearest open space of each type and an index describing the diversity of open space types within neighborhoods of 100 and 1000 meters around a home. Results reveal that a property located 100 meters closer to the NWR than a neighboring property has a price premium of $984. Further, proximity to the NWR is valued more than proximity to agricultural land, cemeteries, and conservation land. No significant differences are found among the values of proximity to the NWR, golf courses, and sport/recreation parks.  相似文献

This essay attempts to identify the features of East Asian capitalism that seem, prima facie, to serve desirable social and political purposes while also being compatible with, if not beneficial for, the requirements of economic productivity in an age of intense international competition. It argues that East Asian countries should build on areas of competitive advantage instead of heeding calls to shed all the old ways of doing things in favor of American‐style shareholder capitalism.  相似文献

A review of the literature indicates that few studies have used artificial neural networks (ANNs) for data analysis in business and marketing research, even though there are many benefits to the use of ANNs. Therefore, this article discusses neural networks (NNs) that can be used in addition to or as an alternative to linear regression for data analysis in strategic marketing. The function and layout of NNs make them ideal for research dealing with nonlinear, incomplete, unspecified, or ‘fuzzy’ data and offer several advantages over linear regression. Unfortunately, in many marketing studies, the information being modeled is far from flawless and is often riddled with ambiguities linear regression is insufficient to accurately assess. NNs could be employed for great benefit by researchers analyzing the nonlinear, complex relationships in business data. The article discusses examples of types of studies that could be strengthened or expanded from neural network use.  相似文献

A modelling framework incorporating relationships between agricultural production and groundwater hydrology was developed to estimate the benefits of improved irrigation efficiency in the Riverland of South Australia. Increased irrigation efficiency can generate external benefits to downstream users through reduced discharge of saline groundwater. In the Riverland these benefits are large in comparison to the direct value of the irrigation water. However, the non-exclusive and site-specific nature of these benefits makes it difficult to fully internalise them through market instruments such as salinity credits. Achieving optimal irrigation efficiency is likely to require institutional arrangements that promote collective investment and public expenditure.  相似文献

Neoclassical economic theory and its supply‐side account of the drivers of economic growth has been influential amongst Australian economic policymakers and advisors. In the post‐Keynesian tradition, we argue instead that aggregate demand drives economic growth, even in the medium term. In particular, the investment and innovation that depends upon that investment are mainly determined by the investment response to consumer demand. Currently, weak wages growth in Australia is weakening that consumer demand. The paper examines the causes of weak wages growth and offers solutions.  相似文献

This study provides evidence for a Stroop‐like interference effect in word recognition. Based on phonologic and semantic properties of simple words, participants who performed a same/different wordrecognition task exhibited a significant response latency increase when word pairs (e.g., poll–rod) featured a comparison word (poll) that was a homonym of a synonym (pole) of the target word (rod). These results support a parallel‐processing framework of lexical decision making, in which activation of the pathways to word recognition may occur at different levels automatically and in parallel. A subset of simple words that are also brand names was examined and exhibited this same interference. Implications for word‐recognition theory and practical implications for strategic marketing are discussed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

While the importance of top management teams in the formation and development of new ventures is well recognised, their impact on the rapid internationalization of such firms remains relatively under-researched. This article presents the findings of a cross-national study conducted in Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand that demonstrate the significant impact that such teams have in creating the core internal capabilities and leveraging the external resources required for rapid and dedicated internationalization. The need to augment the management team in order to address key resource or knowledge gaps and/or to expand international networks is also evident among many firms, as is the impact of changes in team structures on business strategy and internationalization. Directions for future research and implications for public policy in support of rapidly internationalizing small firms are presented and discussed.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a new procedure for causality testing using nonparametric additive models. We argue that the major advantage of our proposed method is that it can be used if the underlying data generation process (DGP) is either linear or nonlinear. Our results show that the nonparametric testing procedure provides a more robust test of causality. Furthermore, we show that the loss of power associated with the nonparametric procedure is minimal if the true DGP is linear.  相似文献
