The Internet brings enormous advantages to organizations in the forms of standardization, power of networks, and inexpensive
operations. Past decade has seen an increase in cooperative relationships among organizations. Despite the acknowledgment
of the impact of the Internet on interorganizational relationships (IORs), there is a paucity of empirical research in this
area, particularly for service firms, with regard to their entire life cycle. Using a field-based survey, in cooperation with
the Gallup Organization, this study empirically examines some of the effects of the Internet on different stages of the life
cycle of IORs. Based on the data collected from 206 firms (majority small service firms with less than 500 employees), results
of our study show that the Internet has effected every stage of IOR life cycle, has increased the frequency and opportunities
to find new partners, has affected the selection criteria that they use finding to select new partners, has improved the quality
of relationships with existing partners, and increased the partnership performance. These effects though were not the same
for different types of partnerships. The research found that the Internet has had the greatest effect for medium-level integration
types of partnerships, which include non-equity strategic alliances and networks. 相似文献

This study examines how the host country experience of Japanese multinational corporations (MNCs) affects their staffing policies
for executive manager positions at foreign affiliates. Hypotheses on executive staffing policies for foreign affiliates are
tested using survey data collected from 103 Japanese affiliates in Korea. Findings show that the level of global integration
and the degree of centralization of decision-making positively affect an assignment of parent country nationals as executive
managers of foreign affiliates. We further find that foreign affiliates’ experience in a host country moderates the effects
of both global integration and centralization on staffing decisions for the affiliates.

Climate change is a growing problem and has been highlighted as a global issue. Empirical evidence increasingly indicates its obvious potential risks to humans and society. As members of this society, business organizations face greatly diverse climate change-related risks that they must recognize and respond to. However, gaps exist between scientific evidence and the actions of business organizations. Few empirical studies have examined the business organizations’ actions taken in response to climate change in Korea. This paper addresses this critical gap in the climate change literature by examining business organizations’ behaviors and identifying the factors influencing their actions. We employ statistical models to compare corporate climate change actions, and we explain their variations using survey data. The results indicate that despite increasing concerns about climate change, businesses have implemented very limited precautionary mitigation and adaptation actions. In addition, the concerns of the businesses about future climate change impact, organizational capacity (leadership, staff capacity, existence of a relevant division or department), and business size are significant factors with respect to the implementation of climate change actions. 相似文献

This study provides an overview of six stock markets in Asia, including Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. We find that the Asian stock exchanges have adopted numerous new concepts in terms of market structure, trading method, and the clearing and settlement system. Growing demand for environmentally friendly products has led to an increase in companies exaggerating their environmental credentials, a practice commonly referred to as “greenwashing.” To identify the impact of greenwashing and to test potential interventions, we designed an online experiment featuring a series of three advertisements featuring hypothetical companies. A representative sample of 2352 participants were randomised into a control group or one of two intervention groups. Intervention groups saw either a literacy or prebunking intervention, both designed to enable participants to identify common greenwashing strategies. We find that greenwashing is effective—participants were significantly more likely to agree that fictional companies in greenwashed ads had higher green credentials compared with companies depicted in nongreenwashed ads. This effect was most pronounced for those with higher levels of self-reported environmental concern. We also find that our interventions reduce the impact of greenwashing—participants in both intervention groups rated the green credentials of companies with greenwashed ads significantly lower than participants in the control group. This effect appears to be driven partly by increasing general scepticism of the green credentials of firms and partly by increasing scepticism specifically towards greenwashed claims. 相似文献

Using longitudinal data collected over a seven-year period, we explored the effectiveness of upward feedback programs in changing managerial behaviors over time. We also examined the different impact of upward feedback programs used for two different purposes (developmental vs. administrative) on the performance (i.e. upward ratings) of R&D managers. We found that managers who initially performed poorly showed more performance improvement than those whose initial performance was good. We also found that managers' performance improved more when the upward feedback program was used for administrative purposes than when used for developmental purposes. We noted a significant performance improvement at the time when the purpose of upward feedback program changed from developmental to administrative. Herein, we discuss the practical and theoretical implications of integrating upward feedback programs into standard corporate practice. 相似文献

Beyond the existing SERVQUAL-based research, the authors develop an alternative model of public service quality. The various sources of public service quality are explored and a new classification scheme formulated by using critical incidents technique. Four main qualities of public service are identified: process quality, outcome quality, design quality, and relationship quality. The findings suggest that the critical attributes of public service quality for customer satisfaction differ according to the types of customers in the public sector. Final customers (beneficiaries) give priority to the process and outcome qualities, whereas intermediary customers (social workers) have high regard for the design and relationship qualities. 相似文献

Although credit rating agencies exist and are important to the capital markets, there remains a question of why they should exist. Two standard theories are that rating agencies correct a problem of information asymmetry and that they de facto regulate investments. These theories do not fully answer the question. This paper suggests an alternative explanation. While rating agencies produce little new information, they sort information available in the credit market. This sorting function is needed due to the large volume of information in the credit market. Sorting facilitates better credit analysis and investment selection, but bond investors or a cooperative of them cannot easily replicate this function. Outside of their information intermediary and regulatory roles, rating agencies serve a useful market purpose even if credit ratings inherently provide little new information. This alternative explanation has policy implications for the regulation of the industry. 相似文献

This study empirically examines whether increasing income inequality results in banking crises using panel data for 68 countries covering the years 1973 to 2010. The results show that developing countries with high inequality tend to have higher levels of domestic credit and that domestic credit booms increase the probability of banking crises. We also find that developing economies display direct channels from inequality to banking crises without an association with credit booms. We find no consistent evidence that income inequality contributes to banking crises in advanced economies. In developing countries, the probability of banking crises increases dramatically as income inequality levels increase: The probability of a systemic banking crisis within three years is 9.5% when the Gini is as low as 0.2 in developing countries and increases to 57.4% when the Gini is 0.4.
