In-Store Referrals on the Internet

In the contemporary e-business, a retailer may display the links to the competing retailers directly (direct referral), or display the referral link provided by a third-party advertising agency (third-party referral), and these referrals may be either one-way or two-way. In this paper, we show that the referrals may align the retailers’ incentives and facilitate implicit collusion, and one-way referral may result in a mutually beneficial situation, thereby providing an economic rationale for these seemingly puzzling phenomena. Using third-party referrals may enhance the retailers’ collusion despite the potential disutility and revenue leakage, and referral services may be detrimental for the consumer welfare.

Minimizing Group Discordance Optimization Model for Deriving Expert Weights

This paper focuses on the problem of how to determine expert weights in multiple attribute group decision making. We first aggregate all the individual decision matrices into the collective decision matrix by means of the weighted arithmetic averaging operator, and then from the angle of minimizing group discordance, we establish a general nonlinear optimization model based on deviation function, and employ a genetic algorithm to solve our model so as to find the optimal expert weights. Moreover, we extend our model to uncertain multiple attribute group decision making, where the attribute values are interval numbers, and finally, apply our model to the plan evaluation of new model of cars of an investment company.     

大陆与台湾水泥产品检验标准的比对研究

本文通过水泥的物理、化学性能及其他品质指标,比较分析了大陆与台湾水泥的产品标准与检验方法,得出了大陆水泥产品标准总体上严于台湾的结论。同时提出了散装水泥检验监管的具体模式和开展两岸检验技术交流的建议,既可用于两岸水泥贸易实践中,也可作为其他商品的检验监管之参考。     

Symbiotic Marketing and Trust-Related Issues: Empirical Evidence From an Emerging Economy

ABSTRACT

Adopting a perspective of social capital theory, we study the effect of market orientation on the stability of symbiotic alliances in an emerging economy. Focusing on a subset of the alliances, namely symbiotic marketing alliances, the results reveal that firms’ market orientation has a positive effect on social capital, which, in turn, has a positive effect of the stability of the symbiotic marketing alliances. Moreover, social capital also has a positive effect on the sharing of resources among the partners, which should also influence the stability of the alliance. This report concludes with a discussion of the implications for academic researchers and practitioners.     

DISTANCE‐SEGMENTED RURAL TOURISTS

This article uses travel distance to segment rural tourists in a tourist destination in the U.S. Midwest. A distance decay pattern was identified, with more than half of the respondents traveling from a location within 200 miles of the destination. The differences in the socio‐demographic, trip‐related characteristics, and destination activities of these tourists were examined across distinct distance segments. Among other findings, the study revealed that tourists from within a 50‐mile radius participated in most of the activities, and those traveling between 200 and 600 miles made up the majority of business travelers. These two segments also had a higher participation rate in the recreational activities than did the other distance segments. The findings of the study show that simple variables such as distance travel remain viable for destinations, particularly those in the rural area, to understand the tourists for segmentation purpose.
