Decreased costs and enhanced customer satisfaction are two main objectives of SCM, and good inventory policy can achieve both simultaneously. Product perishability is a critical aspect of inventory policy. Ready-to-eat food products are very common consumer goods that are, in fact, perishable. The value the RTE food retains is, however, closely dependent on its quality. From the vendor’s point of view, quantifying quality and remaining value should be a critical business issue. In consequence, we combined the traditional deterioration model and quality prediction model to develop a new deteriorating inventory model for RTE food products. This new model quantifies food quality and remaining value. We also improved the new model by fuzzifying storage temperature to simulate temperature fluctuation. The proposed model uses real deterioration rate data. Numerical analysis is conducted in a case study. Overall, the model demonstrates that high storage temperatures reduce profits and force shorter order cycles.  相似文献

In this study, we investigated whether tourists view attractive tour guides as more competent, humorous tour guides as more approachable, and experienced tour guides as more professional, and whether these three factors influence the effectiveness of tour guide interpretation. The results indicated that physical attractiveness and humor had additive effects on interpretation effectiveness when combined. Although some tour guides were not physically attractive, experience provided an additive effect on interpretation effectiveness. Thus, we recommend discarding stereotypes regarding physical attractiveness and improving education and training in humor for tour guides. Experienced tour guides wearing appropriate attire also increases interpretation effectiveness.  相似文献

This study aims to explore the effect of governance mechanisms (including both formal and social controls) upon the buyer–supplier cooperative performance in supply chains. Empirical evidence obtained via a mail survey from 106 firms participating in the Taiwanese “Center Satellite Production System” indicates that (1) there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between formal control and cooperative performance; (2) social control has a consistent positive effect on cooperative performance; and (3) the joint use of formal control and social control could enhance cooperative performance in supply chains but only in cases with moderate usage of formal control. Otherwise, social control becomes a supportive factor that repairs cooperative performance damage from overwhelmingly applied formal control.  相似文献

Welfare dependence or reliance is widely regarded to have adverse consequences for both the community and welfare recipients, yet there have been few studies of the extent and nature of welfare reliance. Indeed, the concept of welfare reliance does not seem to be well defined. In the present paper, we clarify the meaning of the concept and derive reliance measures consistent with this concept. These measures are applied to describe the extent and nature of reliance on income support payments in Australia of persons aged 15–64 years, using Australian Bureau of Statistics income survey data and Australian government administrative data for income support payments.  相似文献

Most major enterprises have invested in social networking to provide services, promote products, or communicate with customers. However, to date, no clear understanding on the effects of social networks on business performance has emerged. This study examines the relationship between the capability of the enterprise to manage social networks and the resultant benefits of their investing in the social network. A fan page on Facebook is the selected target of study. By analyzing the effort required to manage a fan page, we measured the fan-page managing capability by its number of fans. Then, we proposed six hypotheses for empirical examination of the causal relationship between enterprises’ social network managing capability and business benefits. The study applied two-stage data collection and testing. The first stage is to build a general understanding of the relationship between the number of fans and business revenue. Based on findings of the first stage, the study tested the hypotheses on selected global firms and sought patterns of benefits generated from the fan page. This study builds deep understanding from various aspects about fan-page effects on enterprises, and proposes that firms that provide products and services with characteristics of low-product price, short-product durability, and low-customer involvement are empirically influenced by the management of their fan pages.  相似文献

The armed conflict in Northern Uganda led to a large number of internally displaced persons (IDPs). After the government announced the declaration of free movement on 30 October 2006, a large number of IDPs left camps. Transition from camp life to post-camp life has important implications for population well-being. This paper uses the Ugandan National Household Survey conducted in 2005-2006 and 2009-2010 and a difference-in-differences method to estimate changes in IDPs' well-being measured by self-reported heath as well as household food consumption. We do not find a significant effect of leaving camps on self-reported illness and household food consumption but we find a significant effect on the choice of healthcare providers utilised. The postcamp effect was estimated to increase the use of non-free health providers, an effect composed of more visits to informal providers and greater choice of formal private providers, when formal providers are utilised. Those findings shed light on policy-relevant issues in the areas of land rights, recovery of public health systems and gender inequalities in well-being.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to estimate the value of the potential economic impact of climate change on the Taiwan trout (also referred to as Oncorhynchus masou formosanus), an endangered species that only lives in high mountain stream sections in which the water temperature is lower. A two-stage approach is adopted to estimate the value of the change in the Taiwan trout stock due to a change in climate. The first stage involves establishing the relationship between the Taiwan trout stock and climate change, while the second stage involves estimating the non-market value of the change in the Taiwan trout population using the double bound model associated with the contingent valuation method (CVM). Our results indicate that the total Taiwan trout population will decline from 1612 to 974, 560, and 146 if precipitation in Taiwan increases by 0.6 mm/day, while the temperature increases by 0.9 °C, 1.8 °C, and 2.7 °C, respectively. The mean willingness to pay per person per year to avoid a change in the trout stock caused by climate change is found to be US$16.22, US$25.72, and US$33.60, respectively.  相似文献

The increasingly service-based U.S. economy relies on innovation. While there is considerable research on the importance of certain innovative activities, such as patents, less attention has been paid to unpatented innovation, about which there is naturally less publicly available information. Our study exploits disclosure on the fair value of acquired innovation to show that unpatented innovation plays an important, though often ignored, role in merger value creation. We detail the importance of unpatented technology and show that traditional approaches that rely only on R&D expenditures and patents lead to both misclassification of merger types and underestimates of the impact of innovation in value creation. Our evidence suggests that, on average, unpatented innovation accounts for a larger portion of synergies. We further show that higher (lower) gains accrue to the acquirer (the target) in relation to unpatented innovation, consistent with limited publicly available information about unpatented innovation reducing the target’s bargaining power.
