This research investigates the response consistency error which may be induced by certain common methodological practices in tests of predictive models such as the theory of reasoned action (Ajzen and Fishbein 1980). Specifically, the physical presence of a questionnaire was expected to provide respondents an inducement and basis for maintaining consistent responses. In addition, the practice of presenting all measures of a given construct together seemed likely to heighten correlations among constructs, resulting in heightened predictions. Two experiments were conducted in which respondents completed measures of the theory of reasoned action for a variety of behaviors using either a paper or computer-administered questionnaire with items in standard or random order. The results of these studies indicate that, contrary to expectations, the degree of attitude-intention consistency across behaviors may be attentuated in standard paper administrations.  相似文献

The area of services marketing is a highly crucial one for potential ethical violations. The services industry, which drives over two-thirds of our national economy, is about to experience severe changes due to increasing competition. The temptation to make ethical compromises will pose a dramatic threat to the business climate.We review conceptual approaches to the field of marketing ethics and conclude that existing models often lack an important component which affects ethical decision-making. That component includes the interorganizational variables: the primary task environment, including immediate customers and suppliers to the buyer and seller; the secondary task environment, comprised of suppliers and customers to the immediate suppliers and customers, competitors, and regulatory agencies, and the macro-environment, those broader forces which impinge on the activities in the primary and secondary task environments.We suggest various propositions for circumstances under which unethical behavior is likely to occur within the interorganizational domain. Food insecurity is still remarkably high in the poorest areas of the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Many rural households struggle to have sufficient access to the food they need or prefer. This article explores the extent of food access insecurity and assesses the perceived impact on food security of an Empowerment for Food Security Programme that was launched in the Province in 2007. One of the programme aims was to improve agricultural practices in community gardens, home gardens and broiler production. Data were collected among 390 beneficiary households involved in these agricultural projects in 2010. Findings confirmed that experience-based food insecurity levels were still high, despite the agricultural support programme and the government income transfers. Nevertheless, respondents attribute an improved dietary diversity and better access to resources to the programme.  相似文献

The implicit market approach of Rosen is combined with a dynamic model of producer behavior to determine the conditions under which reducing the structure tax rate leads housing quality to rise. Specifically, it is found that, in the stationary state, quality will rise if capital is a noninferior input. Since it is argued that quality cannot be accurately measured, this conclusion is then tested with an unobservable variables model where quality is the unobservable. A comparison between the responses of quality and housing quantity to reductions in the tax rate is made.  相似文献

This case study focuses on Roger Boisjoly's attempt to prevent the launch of the Challenger and subsequent quest to set the record straight despite negative consequences. Boisjoly's experiences before and after the Challenger disaster raise numerous ethical issues that are integral to any explanation of the disaster and applicable to other management situations. Underlying all these issues, however, is the problematic relationship between individual and organizational responsibility. In analyzing this fundamental issue, this paper has two objectives: first, to demonstrate the extent to which the ethical ambiguity that permeates the relationship between individual and organizational responsibility contributed to the Challenger disaster; second, to reclaim the meaning and importance of individual responsibility within the diluting context of large organizations.Russell P. The decision to select a particular group of individuals to serve as a jury is critically important to insure the fairness and impartiality in a trial under the United States Constitution. Yet, the amount of effort and, particularly, the time required under currently used methods of jury selection adds substantially to judicial system costs and can contribute to the inability of the courts to provide a timely hearing. This paper presents an approach to this decision process that incorporates current questionnaire data collection approaches with a multi-criteria, multi-objective modeling approach. An illustrative example from an actual trial case study is presented to demonstrate the informational efficacy of the modeling approach in selecting candidates for jury trials.  相似文献

In the past, transaction cost economics (TCE) literature has largely stressed the benefits of contractual commitments in relationships. TCE traditionally recommends safeguarding specific assets against holdup, thus reducing behavioral uncertainty. In contrast, the reverse side of the coin has been disregarded for a long time. Firms may lose some of their flexibility and thus the opportunity to benefit from future emerging business activities due to prior contractual commitments. Flexibility becomes especially important in dynamic environments where there is rapid technological change. To manage the emergent trade-off between contractual commitments and flexibility in dynamic markets, the authors propose a real options approach. The value of a firm's flexibility to switch to a new trading partner is represented by a real switching option. It can be shown how contractual commitments directly affect the value of the switching option. To clarify, the authors numerically analyze the respective trade-off and derive implications for an optimal choice of contractual commitments.  相似文献

This article investigates the potential of multilevel confirmatory factor analysis compared to using conventional confirmatory factor analysis, as regards the construction of measures for school process variables within educational effectiveness research. Since both techniques have not been systematically compared within educational research, we propose to contrast several aspects: factor structure, pattern of factor loadings, communalities of the indicators, variance extracted by the factors, internal consistency of the factors, and inter-factor correlations. To this end, teacher questionnaire data are used to construct measures for school process variables. Our results show no substantial differences when comparing both techniques at the teacher level. However, when contrasting the different levels within the more complex technique, we notice a fairly large discrepancy between the teacher-level results and the school-level results.  相似文献
