The objective of the study reported in this paper was to examine the role of deep cuts in capital expenditures as a firm's strategy for becoming more efficient and, in turn, more competitive. Based on an empirical study, support is provided for the argument that deep cuts in capital expenditures may be a viable strategy for realigning corporate priorities toward a more efficient operation. A bstract . Henry George supported labor unions and was proud of his membership in the Printers' Union. But he did not regard them as the final solution of labor exploitation. He championed labor as one of the producing classes. His foray into politics as the candidate of organized labor's third party was characteristic; he had had much involvement in politics earlier. Although he supported labor's immediate demands, he sought mainly to use his candidacy to build a constituency for the single tax. Samuel Gompers , then head of the American Federation of Labor , at first worked for George's election but came to the belief that the unions alone should direct and control their political efforts. This paper examines the structures of capitalism in Southeast Asia. Following the lead of Gordon Redding and others, it argues
that parallel to varieties of capitalism elsewhere, there are distinctive features to the Southeast Asian business system,
but that institutions play a relatively large role compared to firm specific resources or industry structures. Historically,
with the exception of Thailand all the countries in the region are former colonies. All including Thailand share a distinctive
style of nationalism, and partly as a result of this, all are governed by states that claim to be strong and lay wide claims
but whose capacities are low. Typical features of the region, particularly the roles of large business groups and the Chinese
minority, also can be interpreted as a result of this history. One of the outcomes of the analysis is an extension of the
varieties of capitalism approach along the dimensions of state capacity and state direction, and of the approach to the internationalizing
firm along the dimensions of dynamic capacity and control of subsidiaries. A further outcome is a questioning of the traditional
picture of indigenous Southeast Asian business people as lacking in entrepreneurial skills, or more broadly of Southeast Asian
nations as lacking in entrepreneurial values. Rather, the past history of these countries has resulted in a set of structures
that militate against successful entrepreneurial activity.

Ambidexterity is an organization's context to achieve alignment and adaptability simultaneously within the organization learning processes. This paper examines the relationship between and significance of two key factors of organization learning (exploration and exploitation of knowledge) and two possible control factors (company size and sector) on the ambidexterity context, and their effects on the creation of customer capital. These relationships are examined through an empirical investigation of 269 Spanish SMEs from two different sectors (Optometry and Telecommunications), using structural equation modelling validated by factor analysis. The results indicate that the effects of exploration and exploitation of knowledge on customer capital are mediated through an ambidexterity context, which in this study is not affected by the size of SMEs but might be related to the sector in which they operate. 相似文献
