The term collaboration has been used throughout a variety of research disciplines to describe multiple types of interaction; yet, a unified, comprehensive definition of the construct remains elusive. This lack of clarity regarding the distinctions and commonalities between collaboration and other interaction concepts has resulted in conceptual confusion that affects practice and research in human resource management. Practitioners see collaboration as more of a buzzword than as an effective human resource strategy. Previous theory development efforts have not yet taken a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach. This has resulted in failure to integrate key themes across disciplines into an overall view of collaboration, which is a commonplace practice in business and military sectors alike. This paper describes a multidisciplinary conceptualization of collaboration and discusses the implications of this integrative theory to human resource management and strategy development as well as future research efforts. 相似文献

Growing dissatisfaction with the prevailing dispersed urban form and its generalized reliance on the automobile has resulted in the formulation of planning models seeking to substitute dispersed development with recentralization. A survey of 301 planning documents with a metropolitan focus, originating from the 58 US and Canadian urban regions with a population exceeding one million, reveals widespread support for urban recentralization. But interviews with 55 planners, involved in the preparation of these plans and/or the implementation of their proposals, highlight actual and foreseen barriers to the implementation of recentralization strategies. The article interprets the popularity of recentralization in planning documents as the outcome of planners' attempts to reconcile their commitment to sustainable development with societal factors affecting planning possibilities. Still, we anticipate serious problems in achieving large‐scale recentralization due to urban development path dependencies emanating from the prevailing urban form and dynamics, institutional structures, and from the limited urban transformative potential afforded by neoliberalism. 相似文献

The EEOC's enforcement guidelines for psychiatric disabilities may present a significant challenge for the small employer. The authors discuss the parameters of this challenge and consider the ADA mental disability guidelines in the context of an operational framework to assist employers. We investigate how need for cognition and cognitive effort associated with multi-dimensional pricing combine to influence
demand. Experiment 1 shows that individuals with low (vs. high) need for cognition are less likely to purchase products that list price and relative discount separately. The direction of the effect of need for cognition
on demand is found to depend on whether consumers’ inaccurate arithmetic generally leads them to overestimate or underestimate
final prices. Therefore, experiment 2 finds that individuals with low (vs. high) NFC are more likely to purchase products that list price and relative surcharge separately. As expected, the effect is eliminated for

Globalization and the connection of remote communities: A review of household effects and their biodiversity implications 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The remote regions of the world provide refuge to a disproportionate amount of the Earth's biodiversity. As globalization continues, isolated human communities in these regions are increasingly connected to global market, migration, and technology networks. We review the diffuse literature on the household effects of changing market access, migration, and technology adoption in remote regions and implications for native biodiversity. Market access affects biodiversity in remote communities through changes in household economics and social networks. Migration, either to or from remote settlements, affects biodiversity through changes in population, remittances, human capital, and social networks. Finally, we consider effects due to production, public infrastructure, and information and communication technologies. There is much ambiguity surrounding these causal pathways, and thus we also examine the roles of various ecological, household, community, and institutional mediating factors in determining the impacts of global connection. Finally, we explore the limitations of our current knowledge and research practices and propose directions for future work to address key uncertainties in theory and evidence as well as weaknesses in methodological approaches. We recommend a broad and interdisciplinary mode of inquiry as the best means toward clarifying globalization's impacts on human settlements and the biodiversity harbored in the Earth's remaining remote regions. 相似文献

We explore superstitious beliefs as a basis of product performance expectations and their impact on initial purchase likelihood
and subsequent satisfaction. In doing so, we demonstrate instances when superstition-driven expectations cause consumers to
make purchase decisions that run counter to economic rationality. In the first set of studies we find that Taiwanese consumers
are relatively more likely to purchase a product with positive superstitious associations based on its “lucky” color, and
are more likely to purchase and are willing to pay more money for a product with a smaller but “lucky” number of units contained
in the package (e.g., eight tennis balls compared to ten). In contrast, consumers who do not hold such superstitious beliefs
adhere to the more rational choice paradigm. Next, we show that the differences in purchase likelihood are driven by superstition-based
performance expectations. We further generalize these findings to product satisfaction, and find support for expectation disconfirmation
sensitivity as a moderator of the effect.

“Pay 80%” versus “get 20% off”: The effect of novel discount presentation on consumers’ deal perceptions 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Consumers often undervalue price promotions because they discount the discounts. In this research, we examine the effect of
using a novel type of discount presentation (e.g., “Pay 60% of the regular price”) on deal evaluations, and compare it to
that of an equivalent discount presentation commonly used in the U.S. (e.g., “Get 40% off the regular price”). In three experiments
we show that the former discount presentation results in higher perceived savings and higher purchase likelihood than the
latter. Using process measures, we demonstrate that this effect is due to increased systematic processing induced by the novelty
of the discount presentation, which improves calculation accuracy and hence decreases the underestimation of discounts. We
also report a boundary condition of the effect of discount presentations on deal evaluations by showing that it is eliminated
when consumers do not need to expend effort to accurately process price information.

Due to the increasing importance of producing and consuming energy more sustainably, Energy Informatics (EI) has evolved into a thriving research area within the CS/IS community. The article attempts to characterize this young and dynamic field of research by describing current EI research topics and methods and provides an outlook of how the field might evolve in the future. It is shown that two general research questions have received the most attention so far and are likely to dominate the EI research agenda in the coming years: How to leverage information and communication technology (ICT) to (1) improve energy efficiency, and (2) to integrate decentralized renewable energy sources into the power grid. Selected EI streams are reviewed, highlighting how the respective research questions are broken down into specific research projects and how EI researchers have made contributions based on their individual academic background. 相似文献
