It is commonly agreed that the success of Lean management is not only determined by its technical practices, but also by the so-called soft practices such as behavior and actions of employees and management. Lean Management behavior is in itself paradoxical in nature as it incorporates technical aspects (e.g., fact-based management, analysis and adhering to the standard operating procedures for sake of efficiency) and social, follower-related aspects (e.g., promotion of employee responsibility to continuously improve their work processes). In this paper, we investigate the (moderating) effect of some important Lean related management actions on the relationship between Lean and the level of process improvement: i) envisioning and communicating the meaning of Lean, ii) setting goals and active steering on improvement performance metrics and ii) encouraging continuous improvement. Survey data of 178 responses from Dutch organizations, shows that these management actions have a positive effect on both Lean and the level of process improvement. In addition, active steering on performance improvement has a reinforcing effect on the relationship between Lean and process improvement. For respondents with a low level of steering on performance improvement Lean does not lead to process improvement, while it does for respondents with average and high levels of steering on performance improvement. AbstractEffective implementation of human resource (HR) policies appears to depend on supervisors’ active involvement in the intervention process. Following recommendations of a recent intervention evaluation framework, we examine how perceived supervisor support during the implementation of a work-life intervention helps to change participants’ perceptions of organizational family supportiveness, and how this ultimately changes participants’ engagement and turnover intentions. A three-wave longitudinal study in a professional services firm (N = 434) that has formally involved supervisors in the process of a work-life intervention showed support for our study hypotheses. Supervisor support for policy use influenced employees’ positive work–home culture perceptions, which in turn strengthened employees’ work engagement and diminished their turnover intentions over time. We discuss practical implications and give recommendations on the future design of HR interventions and related policies. 相似文献

This paper deals with the specification of pollution abatement in dynamic computable general equilibrium (CGE) models and analyses the dynamic feedback mechanisms between economy and abatement in the context of environmental policy. A Ramsey-type economic model is presented, in which bottom-up technical and economic information on abatement techniques is integrated in a top-down dynamic CGE context. The practical suitability of the specification is illustrated by an empirical application for climate change and acidification in the Netherlands. The results show that a mixture of some slowdown of economic growth, a substantial restructuring of the economy and implementation of most technical abatement measures is optimal. 相似文献

It is conjectured that if the government has a distributional objective and formulates tax policy with a view to equitable treatment of households, then adopting the scale that is implicit in transfer policy should identify only reranking that has no equity foundation. This motivates the question: can the reranking‐minimizing scales be identified as those implicit in the transfer system? The analysis presented in this study suggests that the equivalence scale which minimizes reranking, while not necessarily equal to the tax implicit equivalence scale, is nevertheless in its vicinity. 相似文献

We provide a new data set on per capita book production as a proxy for advanced literacy skills, and assess this relative
to other measures. While literacy proxies very basic skills, book production per capita is an indicator for more advanced
capabilities. Growth theory suggests that human capital formation plays a significant role in creating the ‘wealth of nations.’
This study tests whether human capital formation has an impact on early-modern growth disparities. In contrast to some previous
studies which denied the role of human capital as a crucial determinant of long-term growth, we confirm its importance.

This study investigates the increase in the labour force participation rate of women. We estimate a binary age–period–cohort
model for a sample of Dutch women born between 1925 and 1986. The results indicate that the increasing level of education
and the diminishing negative effect of children have played an important role. Moreover, we find important unobserved cohort
effects for pre-1955 generations, which is in line with results of studies on social norms. It is shown that the growth in
female participation is likely to slow down in the near future, as such cohort effects are not relevant for younger generations. 相似文献
