Understanding the Racial/Ethnic Gap in Bank Account Ownership among Older Adults

The observed racial/ethnic gap in bank account ownership among older adults is substantial. We investigate socioeconomic, cognitive, and cultural barriers underling it. As additional potential barriers are accounted for, the residual gaps in financial inclusion with respect to Whites are reduced by 19% for blacks and 46% for Hispanics. We find that citizenship and “taste for privacy” play a limited role for both minority groups, while real asset ownership, health, cognitive ability, and cultural hurdles contribute substantially to the gap. For Hispanics, language barriers explain most of the gap, while neighborhood‐level socioeconomic characteristics are more salient for blacks. We also examine how the racial/ethnic composition of couples influences financial decisions. We estimate a significantly smaller residual gap between “mixed” and white couples than between minority and white couples. We provide empirical evidence suggesting that, other things equal, mixed couples are less concerned with the cultural/psychological barriers facing minority couples.     

Unobserved ties between corporate executives and mutual fund managers

After corporate executives relocate from origin firms to destination firms, only 3.6 percent of mutual fund managers follow the departing executives: they divest from origin firms while initiating investments in destination firms. This phenomenon is more pronounced for those funds that earned superior returns from investments in the origin firms, and that demand more information regarding the destination firms. Further, comigration funds’ holding changes in destination firms more accurately predict cumulative abnormal returns around earnings announcements than do their investments in other stocks and non‐comigration funds’ new investments. Hiring the migrating executives does not improve the destination firms’ operating performance.     

融资约束下企业社会责任信息披露质量与创新持续性

利用2012-2016年我国中小板企业数据,实证研究了不同类型企业社会责任信息披露质量对创新持续性的影响路径。结果显示,对股东、员工的责任信息披露质量能显著缓解融资约束,从而正向影响企业创新持续性;对供应商、客户、消费者、社会和环境的责任信息披露质量只能部分缓解融资约束,但仍正向促进企业创新持续性;国有性质的中小板企业对社会责任信息披露质量更加敏感。以上结论说明,我国中小板企业应注重履行并披露对不同利益相关者的社会责任信息,这对于企业缓解融资约束、维持创新持续性具有积极作用。     

金融危机启示:金融一体化监管趋势下的保险监管

任何一次危机的爆发都是风险释放的过程,研究危机更重要的是关注风险的积累过程。因此,分析危机前的风险积累过程,查找危机产生的原因,对防范和化解危机具有现实意义。本文通过对新近发生的美国次贷危机进而延伸到对10年前亚洲金融危机分析,以及全球金融一体化监管最新演进趋势的借鉴,论述我国保险监管组织架构的未来展望。     

发展森林保险的政策研究

林业是国民经济的重要基础产业,也是为社会提供生态产品的重要公益事业,但是林业生产面临巨大的自然灾害风险。森林保险是重要的林业风险保障机制,但由于其准公共产品的性质和信息不对称等原因,森林保险在我国的发展历经曲折,严重滞后于林业发展对风险保障的巨大需求。通过对森林保险的经济学分析和对国外森林保险制度的研究和借鉴,本文认为建立政策性森林保险机制对于我国森林保险事业的发展具有重要的意义,并提出了相应的政策建议。     

多管齐下 提高机电专业毕业生竞争力——基于北京石油化工学院机电系毕业生质量跟踪调查分析

论文通过问卷调查与对比研究的方式,概括了北京石油化工学院机械工程学院2006-2009届机电系毕业生的就业现状,分析了用人单位和毕业生对我机电系人才培养方面的意见和建议,最后提出了突出实践教学环节、实行素质教育等六个方面的建议。     

浅谈现浇钢筋混凝土结构裂缝的原因及防治措施

近年来,我国现浇混凝土结构得到广泛地推广和应用,但当建筑结构的平面尺寸较大时,现浇混凝土结构,尤其是普通楼板,易出现许多裂缝。结合工作实际,针对现浇钢筋混凝土结构裂缝的产生原因与防治方法进行了论述。

Mandate Versus Championship: Vertical government intervention and diffusion of innovation in public services in authoritarian China

This research focuses on innovation and its diffusion in public services in authoritarian China. A mechanism between vertical government intervention and diffusion of innovation in public services is established by conducting a comparative case study between Sichuan and Tianjin. Administrative commands facilitate the formation of the ‘mandatory policy diffusion’ that rapidly diffuses policy instruments. Competition in the performance evaluation-based personnel system contributes to the formation of ‘championship policy diffusion’, which leads to the divergence of policy instruments in neighbouring local governments. Therefore, classic theoretical hypotheses on geographical proximity, competition, and vertical intervention concerning innovation diffusion need to be modified.
