This paper investigates the influence young adult children living at home have over parents’ holiday decisions. “Consumer socialization agency” (CSA) was developed as a measure to capture the intercession or mediation one person accepts from another person about consumption issues. The analysis was conducted through a dyadic method, which involves collecting data from and analyzing data about pairs of people (dyads); in this case, parents and their children. CSA was related to family size and gender+ but more closely related to family communication style. Families fostering an open, issue-based communication style seem to have the highest likelihood of children socializing parents.  相似文献

Energy conservation results in environmental (reduced emissions) and financial (reduced costs) savings. Consumers’ perception of the worthiness of changes in behaviour may differ depending on whether environmental or financial savings are emphasized. The current study investigated the effects of using either environmental or financial feedback in the context of eco-driving. Participants evaluated six scenarios describing different eco-driving behaviours. Participants in experimental groups were informed about either the environmental or financial savings realized by adopting the behaviours. A control group did not receive information on possible savings. Results indicated that, unlike commonly assumed, environmental savings are considered more worthwhile than commensurate financial savings. Yet, intentions to adopt eco-driving behaviours were mainly sensitive to the presence of feedback per se, rather than the content of feedback. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of these findings.  相似文献

Using a data set of 220 Taiwanese public firms with 2,200 observations over a ten-year period representing Taiwan’s economic takeoff period in the late 1990s, as well as six follow-up interviews conducted with top managers several years hence, this research examines the propensity of an important change variable for firms: the turnover of boards of directors. Specifically, it examines the relationship between board turnover and the organization’s environment, firm performance, and the largest shareholder’s control during a key period of economic transition and growth for Taiwan. The results show that substantial changes in board composition, though still not especially common in Taiwan, do occur, even in closely held companies. Turnover in the board is negatively related to the largest shareholder’s control power as well as firm performance. Board changes however, are not related to the environmental munificence and dynamism. These results are rather consistent with related research on firms in ethnic Chinese communities which suggests that top management and board turnover while not common, does sometimes occur, and more recent institutional and industrial change in Taiwan is likely encouraging further governance reform. This has implications for important facets of firm governance and change, as well as expanding our knowledge about firms domiciled in an ethnic Chinese community, particularly during times of economic transition and growth. Follow-up interviews with four top managers from our sample, along with one consultant and one government official in Taiwan provided additional confirmation and clarification of our results.  相似文献

The paper looks at the role of cognitive radio in TV whitespace and suggests that European and US policy makers have limited its exploitation because of a predominant focus on cognitive radio as a device that is primarily suited for unlicensed opportunistic spectrum access. The paper suggests that markets for pragmatically conceived cognitive radios can be safely exploited within the confines of licensed spectrum, rather than solely in the domain of unlicensed opportunistic scenarios. Both European and US policy perspectives are analysed as they pertain to both cognitive radios and the TV whitespace, identifying the contradictions and opportunities therein. The analysis shows that regulators have already formulated many of the policy tools necessary to create a coherent ecosystem for license-based exploitation of TV whitespace by cognitive radios and that there are opportunities for broadening the regulation of TV whitespace.  相似文献

We examine the associations between audit partner pre-client and client-specific experience and audit quality using data from Taiwan, where signing audit partner names are disclosed. Using discretionary accruals and interest rate spreads to proxy for audit quality and perceptions of audit quality, respectively, we find that both pre-client and client-specific experience improve audit quality and creditor perceptions of audit quality. We also find that audit partner pre-client experience is positively associated with audit quality early in the engagement, but not when the partner has been with the client for at least five years. Our findings provide evidence consistent with the assumption underlying the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board’s decision to require the disclosure of engagement partner names. They also suggest that pre-client experience cannot completely mitigate the loss of client-specific knowledge when partner or audit firm turnover occurs.  相似文献

This study examines the issue of greenwashing among corporate high emitters subject to government scrutiny. To do so, we investigate the relationship between the actual environmental performance, measured as carbon emissions, of companies subject to the Australian National Greenhouse Energy Reporting Act 2007 (NGER) and their climate-related voluntary disclosures. To measure climate-related disclosure, we construct a climate-related disclosure index based on four prominent frameworks and score corporate report content against that Index. Using a sample of 150 companies with NGER emissions data for Years 2016 and 2017, a period that precedes the issuance of recommendations for disclosure by the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosure (TCFD), our regression results show a disappointingly low level of climate-related disclosure by most companies. We also find a negative relationship between climate-related disclosure and 1-year lagged environmental performance among companies exhibiting a year-on-year rise in carbon emissions. That is, our findings provide evidence of potential greenwashing by poor environmental performers, presumably to change negative perceptions by stakeholders, as predicted by socio-political theories. In contrast, we find no evidence of greenwashing among companies experiencing a year-on-year decrease in emissions.  相似文献

Abstract

As Ireland has followed other countries in modernizing its public sector according to the principles of ‘new public management’ (without introducing market mechanisms on the same scale as its Anglo-Saxon counterparts), the capacity of its public managers to supply the leadership required to drive this programme forward has been identified as a crucial factor affecting its sustainability. A broadly representative sample of Irish public managers has been surveyed using the Leadership Effectiveness Analysis diagnostic instrument to identify those behaviours that need to be developed since they are infrequently used or can moderate the liabilities associated with frequently used behaviours. The findings of this study are interpreted within the context of a broader literature that debates the distinctiveness, significance and malleability of organizational leadership, in general, and the possibility of achieving a balance between different and, at times, conflicting public leadership behaviours, in particular.  相似文献
