This study considers the actions of worker health and safety representatives in coalmines in Queensland, where there is little evidence of the facilitating role of management previous studies have associated with the successful operation of worker representation in occupational health and safety. It examines how worker representatives deliver their pluralist representational role in a context characterised by essentially unitary thinking amongst their employers and the effectiveness of the strategies they use.  相似文献

Smart metering can bring significant benefits to electricity markets by allowing customers to reduce demand or increase supply when generation capacity is temporarily scarce. To reap the full efficiency and environmental benefits of this technology, regulators must allow price volatility and free entry into the market. The efficiency gains are enormous as both demand and supply will be affected by both temporary and longer‐lasting price changes. Experiments have shown the value of this approach.  相似文献

It is time to stop regulating the electricity industry as if it were a natural monopoly. Technology has moved on and competition must not be discouraged by regulation. Incorporating inherently safer design (ISD) into a process safety program can benefit a site's overall process safety program. However, ISD solutions are rarely capable of being implemented without consideration of various tradeoffs associated with other critical operating factors at a plant. Critics have often accused companies of failing to implement ISD solely on the basis of cost, often neglecting other factors that must be accounted for in the decision. Multiattribute decisions are difficult to resolve, but there are tools available to assist the decision maker. One such tool that can be applied to provide insight into the implementation of ISD solutions is multiattribute utility theory (MAUT). MAUT is a structured approach that evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of competing solutions for a problem with multiple objectives. In this article, the concept of MAUT will be explained. Then MAUT analysis will be applied to three case studies where investigators have recommended incorporating ISD or technology into a process. Using MAUT analysis, the benefit of the proposed design change will be evaluated in a systematic, semiquantitative methodology that will demonstrate how the tools can help facility personnel understand and characterize the benefits of ISD. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Process Process Saf Prog 38:e12022, 2019  相似文献

Abstract

The conceptualization of the Personal Involvement Inventory was a context-free measure applicable to involvement with products, with advertisements, and with purchase situations. The empirical work to develop this measure was mainly validated with respect to product categories. This paper extends the construct validation of the PII to involvement with advertisements and also demonstrates that the PII may be reliably reduced from twenty items to ten items. There is some indication the revised PII may then be broken into two subscales representing a cognitive and affective grouping.  相似文献

The Sproles Consumer Interest and Priorities questionnaire was administered to the 3,036 members of Home Economists in Business (HEIB) in order to test the hypotheses that the data would reveal: (1) significant correlations between fashion awareness and clothing economic practices, and (2) identifiable con sumer profiles, concerning economic attitudes and activities, applicable to in dividuals exhibiting either high or low fashion awareness. Positive correlations were observed between fashion awareness responses and the concepts that: (1) clothing quality is more important than price, (2) shopping for clothing is a plea surable activity, and (3) much time is devoted to shopping for clothing. Signifi cant differences were observed between persons exhibiting either high or low fashion awareness in the degree to which: (1) shopping for clothing was per ceived as a pleasurable activity, (2) time was devoted to shopping for clothing, (3) clothing was purchased on impulse, and (4) the monetary aspects of clothing were emphasized.  相似文献

This paper examines how corporate social responsibility (CSR) is implemented through social partnerships. Drawing on previous literature and case study research, it presents a conceptual model of the process of implementation. An exploratory case study of the social responsibility partnership programme at the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has been conducted. The case study draws on interview data and documentary sources of evidence gathered from UEFA and the six partner organisations that comprise its CSR portfolio. The conceptual model identifies three stages of the implementation process (selection, design, management), with partnership evaluation being an ongoing process during all three. The latter consists of two elements, namely project and process evaluation. A key finding is the lack of process evaluation due to a high degree of inter‐personal trust. The conceptual model adds to the growing body of research on the implementation of social partnerships and CSR. This paper is also the first to empirically explore the process of CSR implementation through social partnerships in the football sector.  相似文献

In this paper, we estimate separate UK money demand functions for the household and corporate sectors; and calculate estimates of the welfare cost of inflation. We find that the household sector bears most of the welfare burden which is in sharp contrast to previous (US) evidence. Also, we find aggregate welfare cost estimates that are much smaller than previous (largely US) estimates—sufficiently smaller as to challenge the oft‐quoted Lucas finding that shoe leather costs are by no means trivial. For the UK, we find welfare costs no greater than one tenth of a per cent of real income.  相似文献
