The existence and persistence of regional disparities in the unemployment rate is a common problem of many European economies. However, in Spain, this situation exhibits a characteristic feature: a strong positive relationship with the business cycle. The analysis in this paper investigates the relationship between this distinguishing feature of the Spanish economy and changes in the regional wage-setting mechanism, and how this relationship has influenced the aggregate Spanish labour market performance in the recent past. The empirical finding of an important regional imitation effect in wage bargaining may explain both the persistence of disparities, and the positive relationship between regional unemployment dispersion and the business cycle. This result has a direct implication for employment policies, which must take into account the regional dimension of the unemployment problem. 相似文献

This paper is aimed at exploring the existence of typical patterns of automobile model life and the formal test for age effects
in a discrete-choice demand framework estimated with data on the models sold in the Spanish market. Estimates show that the
evolution of market shares entails and quantifies age effects resulting from consumer demand. These effects are clearly distinguishable
from the impacts generated by changes in attributes and firm pricing. They carry an exogenous factor that is full of implications
for firm behaviour over the life of a model: the modification of demand price sensitivities. As a result, for example, equilibrium
own-price elasticities are observed to decrease until the fourth year of a model life, and then to increase again.

Using store‐level panel data for a major supermarket company, we investigate the linkages between employee attitudes, customer satisfaction, and sales performance, while controlling for observed and unobserved differences across stores. We find that employee attitudes positively affect customer satisfaction with service but do not affect customer satisfaction with quality or value. Additionally, we find that customer satisfaction with service positively affects sales performance. This paper analyses the exchange rate pass-through (ERPT) into domestic consumer prices in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries from mid-1990s onwards by using three different econometric approaches (i.e., the single equation approach, the VAR approach and the time-varying parameter approach). It is also studied the role of macroeconomic determinants in ERPT. Our results suggest that (a) ERPT is higher for the emerging markets with mostly floating exchange rates (Brazil, Russia and South Africa) than for the other BRICS countries; (b) exchange rate explains, on average, around the 40% of the price variance for Brazil, Russia and South Africa; and (c) inflation volatility, exchange rate volatility and openness seem to be the key macroeconomic determinants in BRICS countries. 相似文献

In Mexico, the low participation of insurance activity in national production, in contrast to similar Latin American economies, is a concern. Industry’s regulator promoted more intense competition at the dawn of the century. Was deregulation followed by improvements in the financial and economic performance of Mexican insurance firms? The purpose of this paper is to answer this question through a comprehensive analysis of cost variations in an intertemporal manner, by breaking them down into the economic sources that produce them, including productivity. Cost frontier estimation was grounded in a joint production technology of desirable and undesirable outputs, modeled in an input-oriented fashion. Our results demonstrate that even though some companies achieved cost reductions from technological progress or improvements in efficiency, the Mexican insurance market does not show signs of significant productivity gains. 相似文献

The first anti-consumption special issue was published by Psychology & Marketing in 2002. More than a decade later, in 2018, the International Center for Anti-consumption Research held its seventh Symposium at the University of Almeria, Spain. This gathering was accompanied by an open call-for-papers in Psychology & Marketing to create a much-anticipated follow-up special issue. Many papers were received for both the symposium and official call. This editorial introduces the final 10 papers that comprise the Psychology & Marketing 2020 special issue on anti-consumption. While the area of anti-consumption has mushroomed into a vast array of work since 2002, this editorial provides four major themes that help to frame the contributions of the 10 new papers as well as set the scene for future work in anti-consumption. The four themes are: Conceptual clarity and refinement; ideological perspectives; environmental and sustainability focus; and novel outlooks on anti-consumption. 相似文献

This is a study of how contractual mechanisms can mitigate agency conflicts in sub-advised mutual funds. Sub-advising contracts allow fund families to expand their product offerings to include new investment styles and thereby gain market share. We show that costly contractual arrangements, such as co-branding, multi-advising, and performance-based compensation, can mitigate agency conflicts in outsourcing and protect investors from potential underperformance. Fund families will find it cost-effective to implement such incentive mechanisms only when investors are sophisticated in assessing manager skill. The findings help to explain why a large percentage of fund families outsource their funds to advisory firms. 相似文献

Display advertising is traded in a complex market with multiple sides and intermediaries, where advertisers are exposed to several forms of potentially fraudulent behavior. Intermediaries often claim to implement measures to detect fraud but provide limited information about those measures. Advertisers are required to trust that self-regulation efforts effectively filter out low-quality ad impressions. In this article, we propose an approach for tracking key display impression metrics by embedding a light JavaScript code in the ad to collect the necessary information to help detect fraudulent activities. We explain these metrics using the campaign cost per thousand (CPT) and the number of impressions per publisher. We test the approach through six display ad campaigns. Our results provide a counterargument against the industry claim that it is effectively filtering out display fraud and show the utility of our approach for advertisers. 相似文献

This paper examines the EMU effect on trade for the eleven early joiners and Greece relying for the first time on data that include both international and intra-national trade flows, in line with all the microfoundations of the structural gravity model of trade. We find that the overall EMU impact on trade is positive between its members and, specially, for trade between members and non-members. Interestingly, we further show that the effect of the EMU on bilateral trade remarkably differs across countries. For Ireland, Belgium–Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and Austria, we find robust evidence that EMU has boosted trade both with other members and with third countries, while for Finland, France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, the results suggest that only trade with third countries has been enhanced by the EMU. Greece is the only country that shows a negative impact in trade with other EMU members and no effect in trade with non-members. Finally, the results across countries according to the direction of the trade flows (exports versus imports) do not show significant differences in any case. 相似文献

This paper addresses the important question whether public investment spending on economic infrastructure enhances economic
growth and labor productivity in Mexico. Following the lead of the endogenous growth literature, it presents a modified production
function which explicitly includes the positive or negative externality effects generated by additions to the public capital
stock. Using cointegration analysis, the paper proceeds to estimate a dynamic labor productivity function for the 1955–94
period that incorporates the impact of the growth rate in the stocks of both private and public capital (as opposed to the
flows) and the economically active population (EAP) (rather than the rate of population growth). The results suggest that
(lagged) increases in public investment spending on economic infrastructure—as opposed to overall public investment spending—have
a positive and highly significant effect on the rate of labor productivity growth. In addition, the estimates suggest that
increases in government consumption expenditures may have a negative effect on the rate of labor productivity growth, thus
suggesting that the composition of government spending may also play an important role in determining the rate of labor productivity
growth. Finally, the findings call into question the politically expedient policy in many Latin American countries of disproportionately
reducing public capital expenditures on economic and social infrastructure to meet targeted reductions in the fiscal deficit
