When assessing farming strategies, it is important to account for the opportunities provided for tactically adjusting to outcomes of risk. The hypothesis that accounting for tactical adjustment is more important than accounting for risk attitude was supported in this study with regard to identifying the optimal drainage recirculation strategy for an irrigated dairy farm. Failing to account for tactical adjustment would lead to a sub-optimal choice, costing the farmer about A$3 100 in present value terms. In contrast, failing to account for risk aversion would not affect the strategy chosen. The distribution method was found to be well suited to modelling tactical adjustment. 相似文献

ABSTRACT This paper looks at, within the context of lean production, how and in what ways employees participate in environmental improvements. The paper uses data from an automobile plant well known for its participative work structures, New United Motor Manufacturing (NUMMI), to look more closely at the dynamics of worker participation in environmental management (i.e. management of pollution and waste). Findings show that while workers possess important contextual knowledge, the importance of process, intra‐organizational and external knowledge make the role of specialist staff (both internal and external to the environmental function) critically important for environmental improvements. Additionally, environmental improvements often required a combination of more than one knowledge type. The paper discusses how the culture and management structure at NUMMI and other lean plants encourage this combination. Implications for environmental management, lean production, and future research on worker participation are discussed. 相似文献

Two important areas are underexplored in the relationship between marketing resources and performance. First, the subject
has been primarily investigated in the context of Western countries, and inadequate attention has been given to emerging economies.
Second, despite the recent growth in globalization, the moderating role of globalization on the link between marketing resources
and performance has not been investigated. Addressing these important gaps, this article focuses on an emerging economy (China)
and explores the moderating effect of globalization on this link. Specifically, the authors develop several hypotheses highlighting
the moderating role of globalization activities (global product sourcing, global market seeking, and global partnership) on
the link between marketing resources (market orientation, entrepreneurial orientation, and innovative capability) and firm
performance. The findings of the moderating role of globalization provide several important implications for marketing theory
development and managerial practice.

Environmental inspection agencies have limited resources. A natural response to this shortage of resources is targeting and
this targeting policy leads to higher compliance than random inspections. This paper uses individual inspection data on the
inspection policy of the environmental agency for the textile industry in Flanders (Belgium). We distinguish between three
types of inspections and use a survival model to show that the environmental agency inspects firms in a non-random way. Even
though the agency solves most environmental problems, it can increase compliance by using the deterrence effect of more stringent
inspections and sanctions.

Supporting and accelerating the adoption and diffusion of environmental innovations amongst small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) is a major challenge to environmental policy makers. Research suggests that whilst SMEs possess high flexibility, their innovative capacity may be limited to incremental changes within their existing technology system and network. Twenty case studies examining the innovation adoption process in SMEs in four sectors and in five countries within the ENVIS project (commissioned by the EU) revealed great variety in factors driving this process. Findings indicate that this variation can be attributed to the character of the environmental innovation, the specific business opportunity, the regulatory setting and pressure experienced by the sector. Based on these findings an analytical framework is suggested, whereby the environmental innovative capability of SMEs is conceived as the result of an interplay between the competencies, the network relations and the strategic orientation of the company (the 'dynamic triangle'). This indicates that policy to support SME's adoption of environmental innovations has to take an integrated form, i.e. addressing and developing competence, networks and strategic orientation of SMEs simultaneously whilst remaining systemic and context sensitive. 相似文献

This paper analyses current and alternative afforestation policy instruments in Flanders. First we select forest sites that maximize net social benefits given a constraint on the total area of new forests and then we select policy instruments that yield this optimal combination of sites. For each policy option, we calculate the associated costs for landowners and government as well as net social benefits for society. Our empirical illustration shows that the welfare gain is considerable if the afforestation subsidy is conditioned on an objective criterion rather than a case-by-case approach. Our results also show that it is worthwhile to consider alternative policy instruments, such as auctions, not previously used in Belgian legislation. 相似文献

Distribution dynamics is a method for studying the evolution in time of an entire cross‐section distribution and has been initially employed to assess cross‐country convergence of per capita incomes. It has subsequently seen a widespread application in many different economic areas. When describing the law of motion of the distribution as a Markovian stochastic process, working in a discrete state‐space set up has several advantages, but the arbitrary discretisation of a continuous state‐space process has the undesired effect of removing the Markov property. This paper outlines a rigorous method for discretising a continuous state‐space Markov chain. The method is then applied to the distribution of per capita income across countries to reassess the (non‐) convergence phenomenon. It is found that the long run polarisation of per capita incomes across countries emerges even more dramatically than in previous studies. 相似文献

Much is currently being written about the need to encourage employees to share knowledge in order for companies to maintain a role as an intelligent organization in a technologically sophisticated environment. However, there is little written of the relationship between employee rights to satisfactory employment conditions, employee responsibilities in decision-making, and employee willingness to share their knowledge collaboratively. This paper seeks to redress this gap by discussing the importance of the relationship between employee rights and responsibilities and employee willingness to share knowledge. The reaction of a group of employees (academics) employed in an Intelligent Organization (university) to a reduction in their rights and responsibilities is discussed in order to design a framework of employee rights and responsibilities required for knowledge sharing in intelligent organizations. 相似文献

Zusammenfassung Die Frage, warum bestimmte Informationen oder Werbemittel mehr und andere weniger Überzeugungskraft aufweisen, beschäftigt die Marketingforschung und verwandte Gebiete schon seit geraumer Zeit. Eine dieser Thematik zuzuordnende Forschungsrichtung, die in den letzten zwanzig Jahren eine Forschungstradition entwickelte, ist die Imagery-Forschung. Autoren, die sich dieser Forschungsrichtung zuwenden, erklären die Wirkung von Informationen damit, dass die Elemente in dieser Information Gedächtnisinhalte oder Imaginationen (Fantasien bzw. Vorstellungen) bei den Rezipienten auslösen, die ihrerseits die Bewertung des relevanten Meinungs- oder Werbeobjekts beeinflussen. In diesem Beitrag wird zunächst dargestellt, welche Hypothesen im Mittelpunkt der neueren Imagery-Forschung stehen. Der Nutzen dieser Überlegungen besteht zum Beispiel für die Werbepraxis darin, dass konkrete Hinweise für die Werbegestaltung gegeben werden. Anschließend wird der Stand der empirischen Forschung zu diesen Hypothesen vorgestellt. Hier zeigt sich, dass die empirischen Erkenntnisse hinter dem Stand der theoretischen Forschung zurückgeblieben sind. The Impact of Organizational Culture and Reshaping Capabilities on Change Implementation Success: The Mediating Role of Readiness for Change 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3

abstract It was hypothesized that employees' perceptions of an organizational culture strong in human relations values and open systems values would be associated with heightened levels of readiness for change which, in turn, would be predictive of change implementation success. Similarly, it was predicted that reshaping capabilities would lead to change implementation success, via its effects on employees' perceptions of readiness for change. Using a temporal research design, these propositions were tested for 67 employees working in a state government department who were about to undergo the implementation of a new end-user computing system in their workplace. Change implementation success was operationalized as user satisfaction and system usage. There was evidence to suggest that employees who perceived strong human relations values in their division at Time 1 reported higher levels of readiness for change at pre-implementation which, in turn, predicted system usage at Time 2. In addition, readiness for change mediated the relationship between reshaping capabilities and system usage. Analyses also revealed that pre-implementation levels of readiness for change exerted a positive main effect on employees' satisfaction with the system's accuracy, user friendliness, and formatting functions at post-implementation. These findings are discussed in terms of their theoretical contribution to the readiness for change literature, and in relation to the practical importance of developing positive change attitudes among employees if change initiatives are to be successful. 相似文献
