Evaluating the economic impacts of crop yield change and sea level rise induced by climate change on Taiwan's agricultural sector

This article investigates the effects of sea level rise and climate change induced crop yield alterations on Taiwan as well as possible adaptation strategies. For sea level rise of up to 5 meters, as much as 4.9% of total acreage and 16% of rice acreage would be lost. The empirical findings show that the sea level damages range from NT$ 0.84 to 4.10 billion while crop yield losses range from NT$ 1.79 to 2.55 billion. We investigate alternative adaptation strategies finding crop yield technological progress and tariff reduction could significantly mitigate these effects.

Adverse selection in mortgage securitization

Using several large data sets of mortgage loans originated between 2004 and 2007, we find that in the prime mortgage market, banks generally sold low-default-risk loans into the secondary market while retaining higher-default-risk loans in their portfolios. In contrast, these lenders retained loans with lower prepayment risk relative to loans they sold. Securitization strategy of lenders changed dramatically in 2007 as the crisis set in with most unwilling to retain higher-default-risk loans in return for lower prepayment risk. Contrary to the prime market, the subprime market does not exhibit any clear pattern of adverse selection.     

The Effects of Macroeconomic Factors on Pricing Mortgage Insurance Contracts

Numerous empirical studies, including Abraham and Hendershott (1996) , Muellbauer and Murphy (1997) , Leung (2004) , and Oikarinen (2009) , have identified a significant relationship between housing prices and macroeconomic factors. Using a linear regression on the comovement of macroeconomic factors and housing prices, this article employs an option‐pricing framework to price and hedge the fair premia of mortgage insurance (MI). Our model provides improved performance in terms of MI premium pricing, especially during periods that are characterized by high housing prices. Ignoring the impacts of macroeconomic factors on housing prices will lead to an underestimation of MI premia.     

Consumer valuation of health attributes for soy-based food: A choice modeling approach

Given that soy foods possess health-promoting attributes that offer the promise of reducing heart-related chronic diseases, this article employs choice experiments to estimate marginal willingness to pay (WTP) for soy attributes including taste, contents of soy protein, and health claim. Random parameter logit (RPL) models were estimated in consideration of potential heterogeneity across individuals in their preferences for soy food. Standard deviation parameters in the RPL models are highly significant, indicating that individuals have widely varying preferences for soy-based food products. Results suggest that, while taste is the dominating attribute that drives consumers’ WTP for soy food products, consumers do respond to the information provided in the health claim. Yet, consumers do not seem to be recognizing soy protein as the link to health benefits of soy foods.

爱国主义教育是教育领域永恒的主题,坚持以校园文化活动为载体对大学生进行爱国主义教育,是行之有效的教育途径。针对青年学生的心理特点,采用寓教于乐方式,将爱国主义教育融入丰富多彩的校园文化活动之中。对大学生进行爱国主义教育路径选择时应注意以下三方面:首先,爱国主义教育活动的立意设计。其次,显性与隐性教育活动并举。最后,从大教育着眼,从小教育着手。     

论我国MBO公允定价机制的构建

尽管中西方都存在MBO,但背景和具体操作过程却完全不同。目前,我国MBO的定价方式存在着许多缺陷,如定价透明度差、定价动机异化、净资产定价法极不合理等。应对净资产定价法、特别委员会制度、公开竞价机制、管理层贡献补偿和无尴尬条款等问题进行深入的探讨,搭建以合理的估价方式为基础、相当的主体对垒为格局、充分的市场竞争为主体、适当的贡献补偿为特点、并辅以事后补救措施的MBO公允定价机制。     

Revisiting purchasing power parity in G6 countries: an application of smooth time-varying cointegration approach

This study revisits purchasing power parity (PPP) for the G6 countries (i.e., Canada, Italy, Japan, France, Germany, the UK) using smooth time-varying cointegrating approach, proposed by Park and Hahn (Econom Theory 15:664–703, 1999). Using monthly data over the 1971M1–2013M12 period, our empirical results indicate that PPP holds in two out of six countries (i.e., France and Germany).
