Gender discrimination continues to be a problem in organizations. It is therefore important that organizations use performance
evaluation methods that ensure equal opportunities for men and women. This article reports the results of an experiment to
investigate whether and, if so, how the gender of the rater and that of the ratee moderate the relationship between the level
of subjectivity in performance appraisals and organizational attractiveness. Participants in the experiment were 313 undergraduate
students. We predicted, and indeed established, that as the probability increases that employee performance is evaluated by
a female manager, women expect more positive outcomes of subjective, but not objective evaluation processes. Our data did
not support our expectation that as the probability of being evaluated by a female manager increases, men expect less positive
outcomes of subjective evaluation processes. The findings of this study contribute to our understanding of why women are over-represented
in jobs with objective formula-based reward systems, such as piece-rate systems. They are also of interest to organizations

This article analyzed the impact of risk perception, risk attitude, and other farmer personal and farm characteristics on the actual purchase of catastrophe insurance by Dutch dairy and arable farmers. The specific catastrophe insurance types considered were hail–fire–storm insurance for buildings, disability insurance, crop insurance against hail, storm, and brown rot, and insurance against epidemic animal disease outbreaks. The results suggested that risk perception was a significant variable that influenced purchase of catastrophe insurance by dairy and arable farmers, whereas risk attitude was significant only in arable farming. 相似文献

Despite the existence of a positive relationship between new firm creation and economic growth, a certain controversy still
exists regarding the need for the public promotion of entrepreneurship. The recent surge of entrepreneurship policies encompasses
a wide variety of instruments and goals that are mainly designed and implemented at a regional or local level, which allows
for a more efficient use of public resources. Case studies are therefore a useful approach to assessing “good practices” in
entrepreneurship policies. We adopt this approach to empirically analyse whether policies are targeting specific entrepreneurial
projects or not in the region of Valencia. We identify the features (in relation to the entrepreneur, the sector and the characteristics
of the project itself) that may influence greater access to public funding and are principally related to standard requirements
for this means of financing. These variables do not address specific entrepreneurial profiles, sectors or applicant projects,
thereby revealing a substantial degree of horizontal policy design. Other features, such as almost all entrepreneurial characteristics

In the inter-organizational learning literature two flaws can be identified: on the one hand it is assumed, explicitly or implicitly, that there is only one adequate learning strategy oscillating between the extremes of purely cooperative and purely competitive learning. Instead, we propose a typology of three basic learning strategies, the combination of which also allows to represent hybrid forms of learning. On the other hand it is asserted that learning strategies will be retained once they are established. Behavioral theories predict that investors underreact to earnings announcements stemming from the conservatism bias and overreact to a string of earnings news due to representativeness heuristic. This paper thus examines trading strategies of buying past high EPS growth stocks and selling past low EPS growth stocks over 4 to 20 quarters. The results generally support conservative reactions in the medium-term horizon, but provide little support for the over-use of representativeness heuristic on the long-term horizon. Integrated pest management (IPM) potentially reduces pesticide use and costs of agricultural production. However, IPM is knowledge intensive and its spread may dissipate over time due to knowledge required for its effective implementation and to competing messages about pest control. We examine IPM spread and adoption several years after formal intensive IPM outreach efforts ceased in a potato‐producing region in Ecuador. We describe adoption patterns and sources of IPM knowledge in 2012 and compare them with patterns that existed when outreach ceased in 2003. Results show that IPM adoption continues in the area but with a lower proportion of farmers fully adopting all practices and a higher proportion adopting low to moderate levels as compared to 2003. Almost all potato farmers in the area use some IPM practices, reflecting a major increase in IPM use. Farmer‐to‐farmer spread has supplanted formal training and outreach mechanisms. IPM adoption significantly lowers pesticide use and saves production costs for adopters. 相似文献
