This article assesses the quality of Integrative Social Contracts Theory (ISCT) as a social contract argument. For this purpose,
it embarks on a comparative analysis of the use of the social contract model as a theory of political authority and as a theory
of social justice. Building on this comparison, it then develops four criteria for any future contractarian theory of business
ethics (CBE). To apply the social contract model properly to the domain of business ethics, it should be: (1) self-disciplined,
i.e., not aspire results beyond what the contract model can realistically establish; (2) argumentative, i.e., it should seek
to provide principles that are demonstrative results of the contractarian method; (3) task-directed, i.e., it should be clear
what the social contract thought-experiment is intended to model; and (4) domain-specific, i.e., the contractarian choice

This study examines the moderating effects of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on the association between market orientation
and firm performance in the context of an emerging economy. The results from a sample of firms that operate in Dubai indicate
that CSR has a synergistic effect on the impact of market orientation on business performance. The results of our research
on the moderating effects of CSR on market orientation subsets reveal that although CSR moderates the association between
customer orientation and business performance, it does not moderate the association between competitive orientation and inter-functional
coordination and performance. The results of this study are discussed, and implications for practitioners and researchers

Offshore outsourcing of business functions is widely practiced by firms in advanced economies. Although scholars have argued for various theoretical perspectives in explaining its nature and implications, a coherent explanation of how crucial factors that aid this growing phenomenon coevolve has not been offered. Further, a potential gap in the extant literature concerns inadequate simultaneous attention to clients and providers – the key actors in offshore outsourcing. With an aim to fulfill these research gaps, we provide in this paper an integrated framework wherein we delineate various institutional and organizational factors that coevolve to enable engagement of clients and providers in offshore outsourcing. This paper shows that improved trade facilitation can help promote export diversification in developing countries. We find that 10 per cent reductions in the costs of international transport and domestic exporting costs (documentation, inland transport, port and customs charges) are associated with export diversification gains of 4 and 3 per cent, respectively, in a sample of 118 developing countries. Customs costs play a particularly important role in these results. Lower market entry costs can also promote diversification, but the effect is weaker (1 per cent). We also find evidence that trade facilitation has stronger effects on diversification in poorer countries. Our results are highly robust to estimation using alternative dependent and independent variables, different country samples, and alternative econometric techniques. We link these findings to recent advances in trade theory that emphasise firm heterogeneity, and trade growth at the extensive margin. 相似文献

In this article, we reflect on the changing trajectories of agrarian movements in Indonesia. In the two decades after independence, a left-populist alliance of peasants, plantation workers, and other affiliate organizations achieved a mass following and were embraced by President Sukarno. In the aftermath of their violent destruction, the Suharto regime reordered agrarian movements into a single corporatist model. Suharto's downfall opened the way for the re-emergence of agrarian organizations and movements. But two decades later, they remain small and fragmented, with little influence at the national level. In the changing conditions of rural life, and the increasingly authoritarian political context, progressive rural movements face dilemmas on questions both of their focus and goals and of tactical alliances with other progressive movements and political elites. A broader, more inclusive progressive populist alliance is a possibility, but with the continuing danger of co-optation by forces of the populist right. 相似文献

Umbrella branding (UB) strategies for manufacturers’ products have received considerable attention in the literature. Not much is known about this strategy for private labels. Using a game-theoretic approach, we reassess the benefits of introducing a private label in a distinct category, and provide favorable conditions for the retailer to implement umbrella or individual branding for his private labels. We find that (1) UB leads to lower wholesale and retail prices for both national brands; (2) national brands’ manufacturers prefer individual branding over UB for private labels; and (3) the profitability of UB is not always guaranteed for the retailer. 相似文献
