International joint ventures and technology diffusion: Evidence from China

This paper investigates international technology diffusion through FDI by explicitly considering the ownership structure of FDI projects with detailed Chinese data. We find that international joint ventures (JVs) generate significantly positive technology diffusion effects, while wholly foreign-owned firms (WFOs) generate significantly negative competition effects. The differentiated impacts of JVs and WFOs are robust, heterogeneous and causal as shown by our instrumental variable estimation. As for the mechanisms, evidence suggests that JVs bring better technology to the host country, invest more in R&D and employee training, and also provide easier technology access to local firms than WFOs.     

为教育而流动——随迁子女教育政策改革对农民工流动的影响

本文探讨了随迁子女教育政策改革下的人口迁移模式以及“为教育而流动”的迁移机制.研究显示,随迁子女教育均衡政策的出台会吸引更多外来人口流入改革省份,并且改革力度越大、对随迁子女入学的门槛要求越低、升学的限制条件越小,对流动人口及其子女的吸引力就越大.相对于其他教育均衡政策,异地高考试点对农民工流向的影响更加明显.伴随着随迁子女教育政策改革实施,农民工家庭的迁移距离也随之增加.为了让其子女顺利在流入地的公办学校入学,农民工父母宁愿以牺牲部分工资收入为代价来换取一份相对稳定的工作,从而在一定程度上降低了农民工家庭的流动性.因此,在推进新型城镇化的过程中,必须要对这种家庭式人口迁移新模式引起足够重视,在教育等公共服务政策上有针对性地进行适当调整.

文章基于雷州半岛地域特点,找出该地区桉树速生丰产林项目风险因素,对风险因素进行评价,并对风险因素的风险等级进行排序,最后对风险度比较大的风险提出控制措施。     

Optimal Trade Policy under Homogeneous Bertrand Competition*

In a seminal paper, Eaton and Grossman (1986) conclude that an export tax is optimal if firms produce heterogeneous products and engage in Bertrand price competition. In particular, they made a comment that could be interpreted to mean that even in the case of a homogeneous product, the optimal policy is still an export tax. This paper has re‐examined the case and found that the optimal export policy can be an export subsidy, free trade, or an export tax, depending on the marginal cost differential between the domestic and the foreign firms. Moreover, if government intervention entails a cost, free trade becomes the only optimal policy.     

Training, search and wage dispersion

This paper combines on-the-job search and human capital theory to study the coexistence of firm-funded general training and frequent job turnovers. Although ex ante identical, firms differ in their training decisions. The model generates correlations between various firm characteristics that are consistent with the data. Wage dispersion exists among ex ante identical workers because workers of the same productivity are paid differently across firms, and because workers differ in their productivity ex post. Endogenous training breaks the perfect correlation between work experience and human capital, which yields new insights on wage dispersion and wage dynamics.

“居住粘性”下的城市“空间失配”问题研究——来自杭州的微观事实及分析

本文以国外"空间失配"及相关研究为基础,根据国内日益显著的"职住分离"和通勤量上升现状,提出了"居住粘性"这一观点。本文认为居民在面临居住选择时,会因为与特定场所之间的联系而在居住行为上产生一种"粘性",从而造成其居住流动性受限,最终发生"空间失配"现象;同时,利用调研获取的杭州市微观数据实证支持了这一论点,得出居住时间、产权性质、家庭结构、归属感、接送小孩、对自有住房的偏好等是影响"失配"的主要显著因素。本文揭示了城市"空间失配"的微观机理,对指导个体行为决策、完善城市管理及制定公共政策等有一定的意义和作用。
