A Comparative Analysis of Arab and U.S. Cultural Values on the Web

ABSTRACT

This study aims to explore the depiction of cultural values on global websites. There exists a research gap in terms of better understanding cross-cultural differences in web communications between the Arab and Western worlds. Thus, we conducted content analysis to examine the cultural values on websites from Arab countries and the U.S. The results suggest that local websites of Arab countries and the United States tend to differ significantly from each other on cultural contents. The proposed cultural findings can serve as a guide for creating culturally congruent international websites.     

Efficiency tests in the Spanish futures markets

The Spanish futures markets, the MEFF RENTA FIJA, and the MEFF RENTA VARIABLE, are among the fast-growing futures markets in the world. These markets are known for their cutting-edge technological innovations related to trading, providing information, clearing, and settlement. The growing importance of these markets for both foreign and domestic investors motivated the examination of their efficiency. Test results from serial correlations, unit root tests, and variance ratio tests overwhelmingly show that the random walk hypothesis cannot be rejected, indicating that the MEFF markets are efficient. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Dispositional antecedents and consequences of workplace ostracism: An empirical examination

Drawing on the victim precipitation theory and self-esteem theory, this study examines the dispositional antecedents and consequences of workplace ostracism. Using data from 208 employees and their 96 immediate supervisors in two petroleum and gas companies in China, this study finds that agreeableness and extraversion are negatively, and neuroticism is positively related to workplace ostracism. Moreover, workplace ostracism is found to be negatively related to employee job performance, and this relationship is mediated by employee organization-based self-esteem.     

Antecedents and consequences of idiosyncratic deals: A frame of resource exchange

This study examines the antecedents and consequences of both timing and content of idiosyncratic deals (i-deals) for attracting and retaining valuable employees. A resource exchange frame theorizes the influence pattern of personal individualism value, social skill, and perceived insider status on i-deals timing. Individualism and social skill are expected to relate to both ex ante and ex post i-deals; perceived insider status is anticipated to relate only to ex post i-deals. The frame also suggests that i-deals’ content and personal development relate primarily to relational and balanced psychological contracts; the other ex post i-deals, flexibility and workload reduction relate to transactional psychological contracts. The frame was tested with data collected from 289 Chinese employees in the telecommunication industry.

为健康城市而规划:建成环境与老年人身体质量指数关系研究

城市建成环境对人类健康的影响越来越受到关注,老年人在中国已经构成重要的群体,建成环境不仅仅对他们自身健康产生影响,也会对他们子女的生活和工作产生冲击,带来社会问题。以重庆市为例,选择了老年人这一群体,通过问卷调查获取数据,建立有序多分类Logsitic模型,研究建成环境如何通过影响老年人的休闲健身活动(尤指步行运动)从而影响其身体质量指数(BMI)。结果表明,除了年龄、是否偏爱高热量饮食外,居住地是否有休闲运动场所、居住地到休闲运动场所的距离与因变量老年人BMI指数等级存在显著联系。其中,居住地距离休闲运动场所1000m以内是最佳范围,在这一范围内休闲运动场所对老年人身体质量指数等级的影响显著并且随着距离增加而衰减。最后根据研究结论提出建成环境优化建议。     

基于IA技术双控制器网络化控制系统可靠性

本文以因特网作为主要传输媒介的计算机网络控制系统为基础,提出了一种以智能代理技术为基础,对计算机网络进行双向控制的管理系统。在本系统中,是将配置了丰富硬件与软件的计算机作为系统的控制关键组件,在将其构成智能代理后,就能够以多个代理相互协作的方式来对我们所需要的任务进行完成,从而对系统的性能进行有效的提高。     

基于不对称Nash协商模型的多Agent造船供应链协商机制研究

供应链成员企业之间的协商是供应链管理的一个重要方面,供应链上节点企业通过协商才能进行有效的合作。本文在分析船舶制造企业与供应商协商机制的基础上,将多Agent技术运用到合作企业的协商过程中,利用Nash不对称协商模型,为造船供应链企业的利益分配提供有效参考。     

Who is left behind? Exploring the characteristics of China's broadband non-adopting families

China has made significant progress in broadband development. As of September 2018, 95% of China's population was covered by 4G networks. However, our estimates show that nearly 30% of China's families did not use broadband that year. This study attempts to investigate the characteristics of China's broadband left-behind families. Overall, consistent with the findings for other countries, families with a lower socioeconomic status are more likely to be broadband non-adopters. In the information society, older, poorer, rural and less educated families are left behind. It is recommended that the Chinese government shift from a top-down investment-driven policy to a user-centered demand-driven policy to address the digital divide.

装备制造业与生产性服务业互动发展是工业化进程的必然要求.但在我国,一方面是装备制造业“大而不强”,对生产性服务业“拉力”不足;另一方面,生产性服务业“小而分散”,对装备制造业“推力”不够.存在着装备制造业与生产性服务业“两层皮”问题.本文通过分析全国最具代表性的长三角、珠三角、京津冀和东北这四大板块,对这一问题进行了深入分析,并提出了装备制造业与生产性服务业互动发展的对策.
