Although it seems that ethics and religion should be related, past research suggests mixed conclusions on the relationship.
We argue that such mixed results are mostly due to methodological and conceptual limitations. We develop hypotheses linking
Cornwall et al.’s (1986, Review of Religious Research, 27(3): 266–244) religious components to individuals’ willingness to justify ethically suspect behaviors. Using data on 63,087
individuals from 44 countries, we find support for three hypotheses: the cognitive, one affective, and the behavioral component
of religion are negatively related to ethics. Surprisingly, one aspect of the cognitive component (i.e., belief in religion)
shows no relationship. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

He has published in leading international journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, the Journal of Management, Decision Sciences, and others.
John B. Cullen is Professor of Management at Washington State University. He has also served on the faculties of the University
of Nebraska, the University of Rhode Island, Waseda and Keio Universities in Japan (as a Fulbright lecturer), and the Catholic
University of Lille in France. Professor Cullen is the past president of the Western Academy of Management. Professor Cullen
is the author or co-author of four books and over 60 journal articles. His publications have appeared in journals such as
Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management,
Organizational Studies, Management International Review, Journal of Vocational Behavior, American Journal of Sociology, Organizational

This article examines the dynamics of the shadow economy using data for 50 US states over the period 1998–2008. Using a panel VAR model, we analyse the impulse response of the shadow economy to an orthogonal shock in capital tax rates, educational attainment, union participation and gross state product. We find evidence of significant dynamics underlying the relationship between the shadow economy and its determinants. The results remain robust to alternate measures of the determinants of the shadow economy, alternate causal ordering of the variables in the system and conditioning on the level of income in each state. 相似文献

In this paper, we integrate disparate literatures to contribute to a better cross-national understanding of formal volunteering. We propose that three forms of capital, namely human (country wealth and country education), social (collectivism and liberal democracy) and cultural capital (religiosity) are related to formal volunteering. We use Hierarchical Linear Modeling to test our hypotheses on 38,119 individuals from 21 countries. Our results show all forms of capital (country wealth, country education, religiosity, societal collectivism and liberal democracy) have positive relationships with formal volunteering. In New Zealand, it is increasingly recognised, including by government, that water resource allocation and water quality are issues of national importance. Agriculture is frequently portrayed by public media as a major user of water and a major contributor to worsening water quality. We outline the water management systems in New Zealand, and the use of water by agriculture. Official reports on agriculture's impact on New Zealand water availability and quality are summarised. We report how the New Zealand public perceive water, its management, and the roles of agriculture in water issues. Data from a nationwide mail survey were analysed to determine how New Zealanders assess the state of New Zealand lakes, rivers and streams, and aquifers, the performance of three agencies responsible for management of freshwater resources, and willingness to fund stream enhancement. We provide brief explanations for the failures of water resource management in New Zealand and report on options, including community-based responses that might address some of the mounting public, scientific, and government concerns about trends in water quantity and quality. A willingness to pay proposition, concerning riparian areas, included in the nationwide survey provides some evidence that the public are willing to pay for improved waterway management. Relevant non-market valuation studies also indicate that the public places considerable value on preservation values of water in New Zealand. 相似文献

This article considers the key market development issues of electronic information services (EIS). Two variables — technology and demand — are used to model the past behaviour of the market (1975–1984) and to propose a process to stimulate EIS market development in the 1990s. The changes in the supply side of the EIS market since 1984 are summarized and interpreted as moves to realize greater market integration.
