Germany has one of the highest current account surpluses in the world. This is criticised by its global trading partners and is subject to the European Macroeconomic Imbalance Procedure. The authors interpret this phenomenon quite disparately. Some state that the surplus is not the result of continuously and structurally slower imports relative to export growth. Instead, two periods of weak domestic demand have left lasting traces. This should not result in programmes to stimulate the demand side. Others, however, find that Germany should identify ways to increase its domestic demand, especially its public and private investment, in order to reduce its surplus. It is hard to exactly quantify and target an appropriate level of the current account, and thus political action should focus directly on the distortions and misallocations that potentially result from an imbalance. By 2020, however, the German surplus is likely to decrease due to demographic developments, the housing boom and slowing globalisation. Since the rotation of fixed income assets out of Europe (“Euroglut”) is likely to continue, the outlook for the future value of the euro is therefore even more bearish.  相似文献

Service firms face a unique set of challenges in their internationalization and foreign market growth. Their services' characteristics, particularly intangibility, constrain the options available to them for growth. When such firms are services International New Ventures (INVs), their challenges are combined with those related to rapid internationalization and growth. This research investigates how service intangibility and the typical challenges of INVs relate to the firms' Entrepreneurial Orientation and their foreign market growth. The findings show that indeed service intangibility has a relationship with firm proactiveness, risk-taking, and innovativeness; and that not all elements of Entrepreneurial Orientation have a positive impact on growth.  相似文献

Shortly before the decision of the Electricity Market Law on June 22, 2016 took place, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) changed its mind with respect to the procurement of new power plants for the German grid reserve. Other than originally planned, this is no longer organized via a competitive bidding process. Instead, the responsibility for the procurement will be transferred to the transmission system operators, which therefore face the challenge of implementing an appropriate procurement mechanism. This paper presents an economic explanation for this short-term change. Our analysis reveals that the proposed transfer of the concept for the procurement of spare capacity to the procurement of the grid reserve was not appropriate. The bidders would have been exposed to significant risks, in particular due to high cost and calculation uncertainties, which are also critical with respect to the achievement of the objectives of the grid reserve. Therefore, we consider the decision of refusing the original procurement concept as the right step, although we consider a competitive procedure advantageous. However, such a procedure has to take the special requirements of the grid reserve into account. Yet this problem remains even after the transfer of responsibility from the BMWi to the transmission system operators.  相似文献

The asymptotic behavior of the iterative proportional fitting procedure (IPF procedure) is analyzed comprehensively. Given a nonnegative matrix as well as row and column marginals the IPF procedure generates a sequence of matrices, called the IPF sequence, by alternately fitting rows and columns to match their respective marginals. We prove that the IPF sequence has at most two accumulation points. They originate as the limits of the even-step subsequence, and of the odd-step subsequence. The well-known IPF convergence criteria are then retrieved easily. Our proof is based on Csiszár’s and Tusnády’s (Stat Decis Suppl Issue 1:205–237, 1984) results on the interplay of the I-divergence geometry and alternating minimization procedures.  相似文献

Cosmopolitanism, i.e. openness to divergent cultural experiences, has become a desired characteristic of today's global managers. This study investigates the antecedents of cosmopolitanism and expatriation willingness as a final outcome. The results of surveys in Germany and South Korea demonstrate that cosmopolitanism is a strong predictor of job candidates' expatriation willingness. However, there are some differences in the antecedents of cosmopolitanism between the respondents from the two countries. Living and travelling abroad increase cosmopolitanism for Germans, whereas they have no effect on Koreans. For Germans, cosmopolitanism mediates the relationship between various international exposure variables and expatriation willingness. Explanations and practical implications are provided.  相似文献

Improving the economic conditions for small and medium sized firms as well as start-ups is high on the agenda of policy makers. In this paper we discuss some policy options for fostering the creation of new enterprises. The discussion focuses on measures which aim at helping start-ups to overcome liquidity constraints. In order to provide the background for this discussion the paper provides some new empirical results on the determinants of firm foundations as well as some stylised facts on the occurence of liquidity constraints in West-Germany. We analyse the regional distribution of start-up intensity and offer several hypotheses to explain this distribution. To a large extent, the regional distribution of start-ups can be explained by the existing industry structure, regional human capital as well as the regional public traffic infrastructure. Moreover, we show that liquidity constraints occur more often in small and young firms.  相似文献

Crowdsourcing, the outsourcing of previously internal processes within the corporate value chain to an external crowd of people, has become increasingly popular in retail. In applying this practice, retailers aim not only at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of their value creation process, but also at increasing the affective commitment and loyalty of their customers. Surprisingly, the effects of crowdsourcing on affective commitment and customer loyalty, and the factors influencing these objectives have hardly been researched. This paper closes this research gap. Through expert interviews and experimental studies, it comes to the conclusion that especially satisfaction with the crowdsourcing process and sense of virtual community are relevant factors impacting affective commitment and customer loyalty. The paper concludes with recommendations for optimizing these factors in retail practice.  相似文献

Understanding the work values of the current and future workforce is essential for designing a human resource management system that attracts, motivates, and retains talent. This study provides an updated, in-depth analysis of the work values of the next generation of business leaders in the commercial centers of China, Japan, and Korea. Although previous research has often clustered these countries together and labeled them Confucian Asia, survey results from more than 700 respondents reveal striking differences in work values across countries. The Chinese are more individualistic and career oriented, whereas the Japanese are more risk averse and work oriented, and the Koreans are often somewhere in-between. We argue that the value differences can be largely explained by different economic influences in these three countries. This study enhances our understanding of crossvergence theory by distinguishing economic influence in the economic development stage, economic growth, and inward foreign direct investments. While these economic indicators might be related, their influences on work values could be conflicting. The findings suggest that that each economic indicator has a unique effect on the development of work values.  相似文献
