Chinese block transactions and the market reaction

This paper examines block transactions in the Chinese equity market. We find that most of the block transactions are traded at prices at or below the closing price of the regular continuous auction market, and more than half are traded at or below the lowest price of the day. Consistent with the price pattern indicating that the block transactions are seller-initiated, the overall market reaction is negative. However, we find a different market reaction to block transactions when the buyer is represented by China International Capital Corporation (CICC), the number one investment bank in China which counts many foreign institutional investors as its clients. The positive reaction is consistent with the buyer-certification hypothesis, that is, the fact that some smart institutional buyers enter block trade indicates the buyers' assessment of undervaluation.     

Influence of Soldout Products on Consumer Choice

Consumers often face situations in which information about soldout products is still present in the decision context. This paper demonstrates that the presence of soldout products in the decision environment can prompt consumers to purchase available options and decrease choice deferral. This effect can be explained by two underlying decision processes. First, soldout products may create a sense of urgency for consumers to expedite their purchases, which the authors call an immediacy effect. Second, soldout products may enhance the perceived attractiveness of products similar to the soldout products, which the authors refer to as an informational cascades effect.     

房地产价格波动的储蓄效应研究：1997-2008——基于省际面板数据的实证检验

本文利用1997～2008年间的省际面板数据，对房地产价格和居民储蓄之间的关系进行了理论分析和实证检验。理论分析表明，区域和省际间实证结果的差异，主要缘于房价对储蓄特殊的影响机理：被动储蓄效应和结构储蓄效应。此外，房价对储蓄的影响还存在间接储蓄效应，这个效应说明房价在短期对储蓄具有正面影响，在长期对经济发展结构具有负面影响。实证结果显示：在全国范围、中部和西部地区，房价与储蓄存在高度显著的正相关关系，即存在明显的储蓄效应，但东部一些省份的估计结果却显示房价对储蓄的影响不显著。     

中小企业经营者能力培养的经济分析

国家刚刚在1999年9月推出了《个人独资企业法》,积极鼓励个人投资兴办中小企业。但是人们在作出决策之前都会考虑自己有没有能力经营管理企业,如果还有所不足,是不是可以弥补。由此可见,想要投资企业的人都在思考一个自我能力培养的问题。为此,本文对企业经营者能力培养作出经济分析。     

How Do Board Size and Occupational Background of Directors Influence Social Performance in For-profit and Non-profit Organizations? Evidence from California Hospitals

This study investigates how board size and occupational background of directors differentially influence social performance in for-profit and non-profit organizations. Using data from California hospitals, we develop a quantitative measure of social performance and provide the following empirical evidence. First, board size is negatively (positively) associated with social performance in for-profit (non-profit) hospitals. Second, the presence of government officials on the board is negatively (positively) related to social performance in for-profit (non-profit) hospitals. Third, representation of physicians on the board is positively associated with social performance in for-profit hospitals, whereas their presence is not significantly related to social performance in non-profit hospitals. Our findings highlight the different effects of governance mechanisms on social performance in for-profit and non-profit organizations.
