Some characterization theorems for generalized measures of uncertainty and information

Summary Some characterization theorems are given for the various generalized measures of information and uncertainty by using two types of functional inequalities. This paper unifies several existing results on the various measures of information and some special cases of interest are mentioned at appropriate places.The work of this paper was done while the author was a visiting postdoctoral fellow with the University of Waterloo. This paper was presented at the Meeting on Information Measures held at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada from April 10–14, 1970.     

The determination of expected mean squares for anova in balanced designs

Summary This paper deals with the construction of expected mean squares in the analysis of variance. Rather simple rules, which cover the experimental case with unit-treatment-interactions and an arbitrary number of nested blockfactors are given. The rules are applied to an example from steel industry. From the rules it can be seen that as soon as the factor of experimental plots (units) or at least one of certain blockfactors is random with infinitely many levels in the population one can use the simple expressions, given in textbooks, for the case with no unit-treatment-interactions.
