Hicks theorem: Effects of technological improvement in the Ricardian model

Using the Ricardian model, we formally prove Hicks' [Hicks, John (1953), “An Inaugural Lecture,” Oxford Economic Papers 5(2), 117–135.] insight into the effects of technological improvement: uniform technological improvement at home benefits all countries (or at least does not hurt); export-biased technological improvement at home benefits the foreign country (or at least does not hurt), but import-biased technological improvement at home can hurt the foreign country as long as the comparative advantage is not reversed. We then study optimal strategies of technological improvement and show that for a small country it is optimal to choose export-biased technological improvement. For a large country, it is optimal to improve technology in both sectors at a rate proportional to the consumers' expenditure share. Therefore, if the expenditure share of the import sector is larger than that of the export sector, a large country will choose a relatively import-biased technological improvement, which will hurt its trading partner.

‘Does it Really Affect Me?’ Tourism Destination Narratives,Destination Image,and the Intention to Visit: Examining the Moderating Effect of Narrative Transportation

The extent to which tourism destination marketing narratives with different themes influence readers by imaginatively ‘transporting’ them is quite varied. This study investigates the different degrees of influence such narratives have on destination image and the intention to visit, exploring how the intensity of readers' experiences of being transported by narratives with different themes can influence their intention to visit the places described. Our results reveal the extent to which different narrative themes affect destination image and significantly influence readers' intention to visit. The extent to which narratives with different themes make readers feel transported also has a significant moderating effect on their intention to visit. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

南充市米粉中重金属污染物调查与分析

为调查南充市米粉中重金属污染物情况,评价食用米粉摄入重金属对消费者的健康危害,采集南充市辖区不同类型、不同来源米粉样品200个,采用国家标准方法对米粉中5种重金属进行检测。结果表明:米粉中铅超标率为1.00%,镉超标率为0.5%,铬超标率为2.00%,砷、汞未超标,米粉中重金属综合污染指数为0.380,污染程度为安全,米粉综合健康危害指数为0.562,南充市米粉中重金属总体处于安全范围,不会对食用者造成健康危害。
