Firm Size and Performance of Manufacturing Enterprises in P.R. China: The Case of Shanghai's Manufacturing Industries

This paper studies the relationship between firm size and technical efficiency of manufacturing enterprises in Shanghai's manufacturing sector from 1989 to 1992. Although our empirical results show that technical efficiency is increasing in the firm size, the group of the smallest enterprises (0–99 workers) have very high technical efficiency. The group of enterprises with size of 100–249.9 workers have the lowest technical efficiency while the largest size (1000 workers or above) group usually have the highest technical efficiency. Finally, technical efficiency computed from net industrial product has large upward biases compared with that computed from gross industrial product.

Attitudinal Asymmetries and the Lender-Borrower Relationship: Survey Results on Farm Lending in Shandong,China

This paper addresses the problem of social interactions and the lender-borrower relationship by measuring the disconnect between borrowers and lenders across a wide range of lending-related attributes. The degree by which lenders and borrowers connect disconnect depends on whether lenders’ and borrowers’ perceptions across these attributes are symmetric or asymmetric. We compare field survey results from 120 loan officers at Rural Credit Cooperatives (RCCs) in China’s coastal Shandong province, and pair them with an existing survey on identical questions to 394 farm households in the same region. Pairing lenders’ perception towards borrowers regarding RCC microcredit lending mechanism, against borrowers’ perception towards lenders and how themselves were perceived by lenders in the same regards, we observe on many dimensions a disconnect between them in the context of lenders’ “care” towards borrowers, loan rejection, memberships of RCC and group guarantee, lending concerns, cost of borrowing, reasons for default, credit rationing, and lending preferences. This research provides financial institutions with outreach mechanisms to borrowers, while also training lenders to borrowers’ sensitivities.     

应用型本科院校图书馆服务满意度量表设计

图书馆服务满意度是通过测评来了解图书馆所提供的服务是否能够满足读者的实际需求.我根据应用型本科院校图书馆提供服务的实际情况,在LIBQUAL＋ TM的基础上,初步设计出应用型本科院校图书馆服务满意度量表,同时对该量表进行信度和效度的检验,完善后的量表包括5个维度19个指标,符合量表的信度和效度要求,说明该量表对应用型本科院校图书馆服务满意度的测量具有一定的参考价值.

为更好地提高企业用电运行的工作效率,通过安装新型低压无功补偿控制器,可有效解决粮库集中及分组补偿风机等设备使用寿命短、补偿精度低等短板.试验结果表明：使用该节电器风机的综合节电率可提高15％,电机功率因数大幅提高,基本实现准量补偿,企业用电效率大幅提升.     

Profitability, Ownership Structure and Technical Efficiency of Enterprises in the People's Republic of China: A Case of Manufacturing Industries in Shanghai

This paper studies the relationship between accounting profits and technical efficiency of manufacturing enterprises in Shanghai during the period 1989–1992 and examines which factors affect the profitability of manufacturing enterprises. We first estimate the average technical efficiency of four major manufacturing industries in Shanghai. Then, we test for the presence of ownership effects of technical efficiency on profits of those enterprises in these four industries.     

Economic Development and the State: Lessons from Singapore

Analysis and case studies have indicated that intervention by the Singapore government in fostering economic development has not always been successful. In particular, past intervention in the labour market like the high wage policy of the early 3980s has proved to be an unmitigated disaster. However, interventions that lead to the direct creation of national competitive advantage, like the information-telecommunications infrastructure, R & D subsidy and manpower development, have proved t o be more successful. A strong, non-corrupt and market-oriented public sector appears to be crucial t o ensure that interventions are market facilitating, correcting and enhancing rather than distorting.     

关于地方高等院校教材建设的几点思考

地方高等院校大多属于非重点院校，总体上教材建设水平较低，急需加强和提高，加强地方院校教材建设工作、提高教材建设水平。要科学定位，落实政策，重视教材研究，开展校际合作，增加投入。
