This paper examines the interaction effects of institutional differences in the cognitive, normative, and regulatory domains on cross‐border acquisition and alliance formation. Using a sample of 673 cross‐border acquisitions and alliances conducted by multinational corporations (MNCs) from the manufacturing sector of six emerging economies (EEs) over the period 1995–2008, we find significant mimicking (cognitive domain) of local firms' choice of ownership modes by EE firms. We also find that regulatory distance (regulatory domain) moderates the mimicking of both foreign and local firms while normative distance does not have any moderating effect. These findings contribute to our understanding of how EE MNCs mimic ownership modes in foreign market entry and how the interaction of this mimetic tendency with other institutional pillars affects these decisions. This paper analyses how the foreseen Solvency II provisions on group solvency calculations will affect the capital allocation within insurance groups. In this respect influencing factors are identified and the incentives set by them are disputed, in particular choice of method (consolidation method vs. deduction and aggregation method), choice of model (internal model vs. standard formula), non-transferability and treatment of participations at solo level. It is shown that the effects will depend heavily on the concrete implementation of the new provisions on the one hand and on the interplay of national supervisors and EIOPA (inter alia in certifying internal models and in setting capital add-ons) on the other hand.  相似文献

In the median sector, 100 percent of the long-run response of the sectoral price index to a sector-specific shock occurs in the month of the shock. The standard Calvo model and the standard sticky-information model can match this finding only under extreme assumptions concerning the profit-maximizing price. The rational-inattention model of Ma?kowiak and Wiederholt [2009a. Optimal sticky prices under rational inattention. American Economic Review 99, 769–803] can match this finding without an extreme assumption concerning the profit-maximizing price. Furthermore, there is little variation across sectors in the speed of response of sectoral price indexes to sector-specific shocks. The rational-inattention model matches this finding, while the Calvo model predicts too much cross-sectional variation.  相似文献

We consider a cheap-talk setting with two senders and a continuum of receivers with heterogenous preferences. Each receiver is constrained to listen to one of the senders but can choose which sender to listen to. The introduction of a second sender facilitates more informative communication and even enables full communication for a large set of sender preference pairs. We use the model to assess the size and characteristics of sender audiences, the amount of information communicated, and the impact of the senders' biases on the receivers' actions.  相似文献

In this article, we propose an empirical method for the computation of the Stone–Lewbel (SL) price index for product aggregates, when censored samples with zero expenditures are available from household budget surveys. The proposed technique is based on a regression imputation method that takes into account the price dynamics, therefore, allowing to disentangle the role of demographics from the role of prices in computing the SL index. Our simulations seem to indicate that our method is a valuable alternative.  相似文献

Our paper pursues two aims: first, it presents an approach based on input–output innovation flow matrices to study intersectoral innovation flows within industrial clusters. Second, we apply this approach to the identification of structural weaknesses in East Germany relative to the western part of the country. The case of East Germany forms an interesting subject because while its convergence process after unification began promisingly in the first half of the 1990s, convergence has since slowed down. The existing gap can now be traced mainly to structural weaknesses in the East German economy, such as the absence of strong industrial cluster structures. With this in mind, we investigate whether East Germany does in fact reveal the abovementioned structural weaknesses. Does East Germany possess fewer industrial clusters? Are they less connected? Does East Germany lack specific clusters that are also important for the non-clustered part of the economy?  相似文献
