This paper examines the impact of borrowers’ managerial ability on lenders’ bank‐loan pricing and the channels through which managerial ability affects bank‐loan pricing. Using a large sample of US bank loans, we provide evidence that higher managerial ability is associated with lower bank‐loan prices. This effect is stronger in firms with high information risk, suggesting that an important channel for managerial ability to affect bank‐loan pricing is through improved financial disclosure to mitigate information asymmetry. The relationship is also stronger for firms with weak business fundamentals, implying that another channel is through improved business performance. Of these two mechanisms, path analysis suggests that the business‐fundamentals mechanism is the more important channel through which managerial ability affects bank‐loan pricing. 相似文献

The Use of Data Envelopment Analysis with Probabilistic Assurance Regions for Measuring Hospital Efficiency 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
This paper uses Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for an estimation of the cost efficiency of 70 Danish hospitals. The analysis relates to a cost function based on 483 outputs in combination with a set of probabilistic assurance regions defined by the cost distributions for each output. It is demonstrated that the probabilistic assurance region approach allows for (i) a frontier estimation in the full output space, i.e., no fixed aggregation is required, and (ii) a controlling of the variation in heterogeneity of the output clusters, in casu Diagnosis Related Groups. The likelihood of the estimated efficiency score for a given hospital can be measured based on the sensitivity of the score w.r.t. the probability levels used in the specification of confidence intervals for the probabilistic assurance regions. 相似文献

Marketing is an important and challenging competitive instrument for small-scale quality food producers. Traditional commercial channels may be unprofitable and small-scale food producers often lack access to a highly concentrated retail sector. In this situation a number of strategic alliances between farmers and between farmers and other public and private actors have emerged. The aim of this paper is to discuss and compare initiatives to develop alternative marketing channels for small-scale specialty food producers. The three examples of emerging channels we investigate are (i) the 'new' farmers markets, (ii) retail initiatives where local producers deliver their produce directly to shops, and (iii) companies founded by large cooperatives to market specialty products. Recent research has justified that such initiatives can be conceptualized as hybrid governance structures, i.e. complex structures that entail properties of both market and hierarchy.
