The methodological ideal of experimentalists, E, is easily stated: derive a testable hypothesis, H, from a well-specified theory, T; implement experiments with a design; implicitly in the latter are auxiliary hypotheses, A, that surface in the review/discussion of completed research reports (payoffs are 'adequate,' Ss are 'relevant,' instructions, context are 'clear,' etc.). We want to be able to conclude, if statistical test outcomes support not-H, that T is 'falsified.' But this is not what we do; rather we ask if there is a flaw in the test, i.e. not-A is supported, and we do more experiments. This is good practice—much better than the statistical rhetoric of falsificationism. Undesigned social processes allow E to accumulate technical and instrumental knowledge that drive the reduction of experimental error and constitute a more coherent methodology than falsificationism. 相似文献

This paper addresses the potential for a quantity/quality tradeoff due to breeding incentives for California thoroughbreds. This paper reconsiders the importance of the sovereign state in contemporary geopolitics. The role of the state in an era of globalisation and devolution is a concern that has gained considerable attention in recent geographical scholarship. What has received less attention is how the state has historically functioned as a device that conflated the linked concerns of sovereignty and territoriality. The authors argue that there exist a number of “sovereignty paradoxes” that inhibit the interdisciplinary analysis of the interrelations between sovereignty, territoriality, and state power. Thus, reconsidering sovereignty and territoriality informs both how the state emerged as an important unit of geographical analysis historically, and why the state has become such a problematic concept in contemporary geopolitics. Leisure activities such as local recreation trips usually take place in discrete blocks of time that are surrounded by time
devoted to other commitments. It can be costly to transfer time between blocks to allow for longer outings. These observations
affect the value of time within those blocks and suggest that traditional methods for valuing time using labor markets miss
important considerations. This paper presents a new model for time valuation that uses non-employment time commitments to
infer the shadow value of time spent in recreation. A unique survey that elicited revealed and stated preference data on household
time allocation is used to implement the model. The results support the conclusion that there is an increasing marginal value

Differences across decades in the counter‐cyclical stance of fiscal policy can identify whether the growth in government spending affects output growth and so speeds recovery from a recession. We study government‐spending reaction functions from the 1920s and 1930s for twenty countries. There are two main findings. First, surprisingly, government spending was less counter‐cyclical in the 1930s than in the 1920s. Second, the growth of government spending did not have a significant effect on output growth, so that there is little evidence that this feature of fiscal policy played a stabilizing role in the interwar period. 相似文献

marketing, management, and operations literatures, an investigative framework is generated that identifies the various stakeholders
potentially impacted through the environmentally friendly efforts of a firm. Specifically, the inter-connected nature of the
core business disciplines of marketing, management (both strategy and human resources), and operations are examined as controllable
functions within an organization from which strategies can be enacted to affect a firm’s stakeholders. The prior research
