In 2015, for the first time in history, the number of extremely poor people dropped below 10 percent of the world’s population. The world also adopted 17 new Sustainable Development Goals, and more than 180 countries agreed to curb carbon emissions. Hardly ever before have so many governments, businesses, international organizations, and civil society groups agreed on such ambitious targets. However, the global economic environment is weak and fragile and getting more volatile. Emerging economies and developing countries are underperforming, commodity prices will likely stay low, climate change is an additional threat, and the geopolitical situation is tense. These risks are global in nature and therefore need global, coordinated responses. countries need to build stronger foundations to be able to withstand shocks and volatilities. We should not just care about the level of growth, but also the quality and inclusiveness of the growth process. There is a strong and positive correlation between the quality of institutions and a country’s prosperity. 相似文献

Indonesia’s urban centers recently underwent an explosion of supermarkets. With cheaper, higher quality commodities and better services, supermarkets have the potential to drive traders in traditional markets out of business. In this paper, we evaluate whether this is indeed the case. We find that traditional traders experienced declines in their business. However, both qualitative and quantitative findings indicate that the main cause of decline is not supermarkets. Instead, traditional markets are plagued with internal problems and face increasingly bitter competition from street vendors. Therefore, the policy recommendations include strengthening traditional traders and seriously tackling the problem of street vendors. 相似文献

Category management,product assortment,and consumer welfare 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this article, we endogenize product assortment decisions under a category management (CM) framework in a channel setup.
We find that (1) product assortment is polarized more under CM than under a non-CM regime; (2) the price of a high-end (low-end)
product in an assortment increases (decreases) under CM than under a non-CM regime; and (3) a high-quality manufacturer makes
more profit than a low-quality manufacturer. In our model, the manufacturer’s choice of quality and its polarization is driven
by the existence and the decisions of the retailer (CM or non-CM). Finally, we have an interesting result on consumer welfare.
We find that the total consumer welfare, as measured by consumer surplus, worsens under CM only when there is sufficient heterogeneity
in consumers’ tastes. 相似文献

Can the use of focus groups be helpful to get to the roots of ethical issues in the accounting profession? The activities of one such group at Cranfield throws considerable light on the pressures to which individual accountants can be subjected. Professor Vyakarnam has recently been appointed to the Chair of Enterprise at Nottingham Trent University. Sri Srikanthan is Senior Lecturer in the Finance and Accounting Department at Cranfield University School of Management, where Sharon Fitzsimons is Research Officer in the Economics Group. 相似文献

We study a contracting problem where a principal delegates the decision to implement a “project” to an agent who obtains private information about the value of the project before making the implementation decision. Moral hazard arises because the agent gets private random non-contractible benefits, or incurs private random non-contractible costs, if the project is implemented. This contracting problem is pervasive, when “project” and “benefits” are interpreted broadly. 相似文献
