The aim of this paper is to shed light on consumers’ concurrent ownership of original and counterfeit versions of a brand, a phenomenon that is lively in the global market place but has thus far failed to attract adequate research attention. Using findings from eight focus group discussions, this paper investigates the relationships consumers have with brands and counterfeits when they own both at the same time, based on different object‐, self‐, and other‐centered engagements. Subsequently, three distinct consumer segments were identified that vary in their relationship trajectories over time. Along three established phases, a decline in purchasing of counterfeits can be observed; between Phases 1 and 2, this is due largely to negative emotional aspects, while making the transition to Phase 3 is always induced by a conflict with the social self. In all three segments the gap between the perceived and ideal social self widens, yet, once again, there are differences in the coping strategies.  相似文献

The correction in value of an over‐the‐counter derivative contract due to counterparty risk under funding constraints is represented as the value of a dividend‐paying option on the value of the contract clean of counterparty risk and excess funding costs. This representation allows one to analyze the structure of this correction, the so‐called Credit Valuation Adjustment (CVA for short), in terms of replacement cost/benefits, credit cost/benefits, and funding cost/benefits. We develop a reduced‐form backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) approach to the problem of pricing and hedging the CVA. In the Markov setup, explicit CVA pricing and hedging schemes are formulated in terms of semilinear partial differential equations.  相似文献

In the last issue of Intereconomics, a first article by the present authors looked into the measures that central banks have taken in support of the financial sector in an effort to mitigate the effects of the financial crisis. This second article describes the measures taken by governments to contain the impact of the financial crisis and discusses potential exit strategies. Although the focus is on the measures implemented by euro area governments, the article also compares these measures with the ones taken in the United Kingdom and the United States.  相似文献

Road safety, in particular pedestrian safety, is a problem in Trinidad and Tobago. Data were derived from the database of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. Road traffic crashes in Trinidad and Tobago are largely an urban problem. Four urban areas accounted for nearly three-quarters of reported road traffic crashes, fatalities and injuries. Pedestrians, passengers and drivers accounted for 93% of fatalities and 95% of injuries due to road traffic crashes in 2000. Pedestrians alone accounted for 42% of fatalities and 34% of injuries in 2000. Trends over time show that there has been a decline in fatality rates from 17 deaths per 100,000 population in 1960 to 10 deaths per 100,000 population in 2000, despite rapid motorization. Motorization increased four-fold from 63 registered vehicles per 1000 population in 1960 to 250 vehicles per 1000 population in 2000. In conclusion, effort should be intensified to ensure safety for all road users and, in particular, pedestrians, passengers and drivers. Improved data collection and operational research would improve monitoring and evaluation of policy interventions.  相似文献

We propose a new family of copulas generalizing the Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern family and generated by two univariate functions. The main feature of this family is to permit the modeling of high positive dependence. In particular, it is established that the range of the Spearman’s Rho is [ − 3/4,1] and that the upper tail dependence coefficient can reach any value in [0,1]. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given on the generating functions in order to obtain various dependence properties. Some examples of parametric subfamilies are provided.  相似文献

Monetary incentives are a procedural pillar in experimental economics. By applying four distinct monetary incentive schemes in three experimental finance applications, we investigate the impact of an incentive scheme’s salience on results and elicit subjects’ perception of the experienced scheme. We find (1) no differences in results between salient schemes but a significant impact if the incentive scheme is non-salient. (2) The number of previous participations has a significant impact on the perception of the incentive scheme by subjects: it strongly correlates with subjects’ motives for participation, positively contributes to subjects’ understanding of the incentive scheme, but has no influence on subjects’ motivation within the experiment. (3) Subjects favor more salient over less- or non-salient schemes in the gain domain and negatively evaluate high salience in the loss domain.  相似文献

Herein we explore whether a solemn oath can eliminate hypothetical bias in a voting referenda, a popular elicitation mechanism promoted in non-market valuation exercises for its incentive compatibility properties. First, we reject the null hypothesis that a hypothetical bias does not exist. Second, we observe that people who sign an oath are significantly less likely to vote for the public good in a hypothetical referenda. We complement this evidence with a self-reported measure of honesty which confirms that the oath increases truthfulness in answers. This result opens interesting avenues for improving the elicitation of preferences in the lab and beyond.  相似文献
