Today's successful farmer needs up-to-date, accurate information on countless subjects. Finding more effective ways to get information from agricultural researchers to farmers is more important now than it ever has been. This study determined where farmers in two southern Saskatchewan municipalities got information about new grain varieties, new chemicals and other innovations. Because the study is based on a sample area typical of farm communities across southern Saskatchewan, the findings are relevant to this entire grain growing region. Results are that while information sources such as the Agricultural Representative and extension services were useful, they did not have nearly enough contact with farmers. On the other hand, information sources such as the elevator agent, registered seed grower, farm press and radio had a great deal of contact with farmers, but did not distribute nearly as much information as they could. These findings indicate an immediate need for a more cooperative farm information program in Western Canada. Du fail que l'étude est basée sur un endroit représentatif de communautés rurales du Sud de la Saskatchewan, les résultats sont valables pour toute cette région de production de grain. Les conclusions indiquent que, en dépit du fait que les sources d'information comme I'agronome de comté et le service de vulgarisation sont utiles, ces dernières ne retiennent cependant pas beaucoup I'attention des fermiers. Elks soulignent également le fait que les sources d'information telles que I'agent de compagnie de grain, le producteur de semence, la presse et la radio agricole tout en maintenant un lien etroit avec les fermiers ne distribuent pas toute I'information qu'ils pourraient fournir. is that, holding public opinion constant, democracies and dictatorships will have the same policies—a result I call Mises’
Democracy–Dictatorship Equivalence Theorem. According to Mises, dictators have to comply with public opinion or else they
will be overthrown. I argue that he seriously overestimates the power of revolution to discipline dictators. Mises was perceptive
to note that, in practice, “dictatorially imposed” policies are often democratically sustainable, but he neglected several
mechanisms—all more plausible than the threat of revolution—capable of explaining this fact.

Using real options theory, I develop the notion of corporate social responsibility as a real option its implications for risk management. Real options theory allows for a strategic view of corporate social responsibility. This paper is divided into two main sections. The first part summarises briefly the main points which have arisen in the lengthy debate over the treatment of banking intermediaries in the national accounts. The discussion emphasises the method adopted in the early Australian accounts when banks were treated in the same way as the general government. It is argued that this method is simpler and provides a more realistic account of the functions of banks than the current SNA proposal.
The second part of the paper examines the functions of banks in Australia. It uses data of interest and administration cost for separate banking institutions to examine the incidence of bank costs. It is concluded that the costs do not fall on borrowers or lenders but are a charge in providing a communal service in the establishment and maintenance of the financial system. 相似文献

We examine the effect of internal control reports on lending officers’ assessments of a company’s creditworthiness. We suggest that an adverse internal control opinion can undermine the assurance provided by an unqualified opinion on financial statements taken as a whole and have a negative affect on lenders’ assessments. This paper presents an analysis of the significance of the Internet in rebuilding a shop stewards movement in a time of circumscribed trade union organisation and power. It takes the National Shop Stewards Network as the focus for empirical research and places the argument within the broader context of two historical periods of trade union activity. The study finds significant historical parallels in terms of the key questions of the relationship between a network and a movement and the virtual and real worlds. It suggests that the Internet is particularly significant in forging horizontal rather than vertical links between shop stewards and unions and also provides the potential for mutual support and solidarity. However, the empirical research suggests different levels of engagement with the network, which the paper categorises and it also illustrates how a political party can become engaged in the networking activity. 相似文献

It is remarkable that despite wide-ranging, in-depth studies over many years, almost no conservation agriculture (CA) studies consider gender and gender relations as a potential explanatory factor for (low) adoption rates. This is important because CA demands new ways of working with the farm system. Implementation will inevitably involve a reallocation of men's and women's resources as well as having an impact upon their ability to realize their gender interests. With respect to intra-household decision-making and the distribution of benefits, CA interventions have implications for labour requirements and labour allocation, investment decisions with respect to mechanization and herbicide use, crop choice, and residue management. CA practice may impact upon the ability of households to source a wide variety of crops, wild plants, and insects and small animals for household nutrition. Gender biases in extension service design can sideline women. This paper examines the limited research to date on the interactions between CA interventions and gender in East and Southern Africa, and, based on the gaps observed, sets out a research agenda. It argues that attention to gender in CA is particularly timely given the increasing interest in CA as a means of adapting to climate change. 相似文献
