Oppression Net     
In its early days the Internet was thought to be resistant to regulation and censorship. However, the technology of the Internet has developed in a climate of moral responsibility. The support for self-regulation has taken the initiative from the state and placed it firmly in the grasp of the industry itself. As a result, unprecedented levels of material have been removed from the Net. The dynamic for self-regulation now frequently outstrips government proposals both in extent and effectiveness.  相似文献

"How do I justify investment in eCommerce to a group of senior managers that get their secretaries to print their emails?" was how one manager interviewed for this study summarised his eCommerce problem. This article is about how firms can develop a systematic strategy for delivering service on the web – eService. It starts with the result of a survey of responsiveness to customers in web-based service delivery, part of a study which also includes case studies of companies seeking to justify such investments. It then focuses on understanding the challenge of eService, developing a strategy and making the case for investment. This paper examines self-employment in Canada at the beginning of the 20th century. Self-employment 100 years ago was associated with greater human capital and negatively related to earnings in employee occupations in the local district. We also find strong evidence of immigrant assimilation in self-employment and modest evidence of higher self-employment in enclaves with greater concentration of immigrants. An analysis of recent immigrants supports the hypothesis that liquidity constraints were an important determinant of self-employment. Christian affiliation had little impact on self-employment outcomes.  相似文献

The voluntary sector is an important source of employment in the UK and is increasingly providing services previously provided by the public sector. However, the ability of the sector to provide such services is dependent on the quantity and quality of suitable labour. This article examines recruitment issues in seven case‐study voluntary organisations offering social care in Scotland. Interviews were conducted with 137 managers and employees in these organisations. In addition, to assess potential labour supply, interviews and focus groups were conducted with careers advisers and potential employees. The findings suggest that, with a tightening labour market, uncompetitive pay and misconceptions about the sector, recruitment is a problem. However, job satisfaction is high for current employees, and potential employees whose values are commensurate with the sector might be attracted. The findings thus have relevance not just for the case‐study organisations, but for HRM in the voluntary sector generally.  相似文献

The negotiation and agreement of goals for collaborations between public and non-profit organizations is argued to be a complex and painful process. Thus, the research described in this paper used action research to explore some of the critical behaviours in such groups. Based on the two units of analysis of 'goal ownership' and 'episodes in negotiation', a categorization of types of multi-organizational group negotiation behaviour is developed. The categories are intended to be of practical use to those seeking to ensure the success of a collaboration.  相似文献
