Are negotiators who rely on justice principles in the process of bargaining and drafting agreements more—or rather less—effective than others? This article examines whether adherence to principles of procedural and distributive justice in negotiations contributes to more effective results, with a focus on international environmental negotiations. Effectiveness is defined in terms of the extent of agreement (among parties and on issues), time to reach agreement, and comprehensiveness of the agreement. A set of hypotheses is evaluated on a selection of bilateral and multilateral cases of environmental negotiations, using statistical methods. The analyses reveal that adherence to principles of procedural justice contributes to more effective results in multilateral environmental negotiations. These principles are found to hinder effectiveness in the bilateral cases. On the other hand, adherence to principles of distributive justice is only moderately related to effectiveness in both the bilateral and multilateral cases. 相似文献

The economic development of high-tech industries in Taiwan focuses on IC design, opt electrics, semiconductors, computer science and telecommunication. It is necessary for business to understand the relations and significance of the economic performance to take the responsibility and keep a positive corporate image, thus they can earn more admiration and trust from customers. How do they take the social responsibility to improve their corporate image and create the economic performance, and finally reach the top one of the whole world? This study discusses the subject concerning the continuing development of business and relevant issues stated above. We found that 68.1% of high-tech industries in Taiwan are in accordance with business ethics and norms of conduct. Businesses take their responsibility practically by participating in public welfare activities. The more responsibilities they fulfill; the better image they have. High-tech industries should target the social responsibility as their first goal and secondly improve their corporate image to increase the economic performance. 相似文献

In this paper we explore lessons from the global liquidity crisis pertaining to the prudential supervision role of central
bank in an open economy. The crisis validates the need for external debt management policy in emerging markets. Hoarding international
reserves (IR) is a potent self-insurance mechanism. However, it is associated with relatively high costs and is also less
efficient in absence of assertive external debt management policies. In the presence of congestion externalities associated

Economists and other social scientists are calling for a reassessment of the impact of international trade on labor markets
in developed and developing countries. Classical models of globalization and trade, based upon the international exchange
of finished goods, fail to capture the fragmentation of much commodity production and the geographical separation of individual
production tasks. This fragmentation, captured in the growing volume of intra-industry trade, prompts investigation of the
effects of trade within, rather than between, sectors of the economy. In this paper we examine the relationship between international
trade and the task structure of US employment. We link disaggregate US trade data from 1972 to 2006, the NBER manufacturing
database, the Decennial Census, and occupational and task data from the Dictionary of Occupational Titles. Within-industry
shifts in task characteristics are linked to import competition and technological change. Our results suggest that trade has
played a major role in the growth in relative demand for nonroutine tasks, particularly those requiring high levels of interpersonal

Spot to retail price pass-through behavior of the U.S. gasoline market was investigated at the national and regional levels, using weekly wholesale and retail motor gasoline prices from January 2000 to the present. Asymmetric pass-through was found across all regions, with faster pass-through when prices are rising. Pass-through patterns, in terms of speed and time for completion, were found to vary from region to region. Spatial aggregation was investigated at the national level and the East Coast with the aggregated cumulative pass-through being greater than the volume-weighted regional pass-through when spot prices increase. These results are useful to the petroleum industry, consumers, and policy makers by providing a basis to estimate the retail price effects that result from a change in spot price. 相似文献

This paper examines the impact of trade policy on specialization patterns in ten Latin American countries over the period
1985–1998. These countries are natural case studies because in the last decades they implemented comprehensive trade liberalization
programs, both generally and preferentially, starting from relatively high tariff protection levels. Our econometric results
suggest that reducing own most favored nation tariffs is associated with increasing manufacturing production specialization.
Furthermore, we find that preferential trade liberalization and differences in the degree of unilateral openness have resulted
in increased dissimilarities in manufacturing production structures across countries. These results are robust across specialization
measures and estimation methods.

This paper analyses both quarterly data from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Survey on respondents’ expectations
of recent and forthcoming manufacturing output and monthly Office of National Statistics (ONS) figures on actual manufacturing
output within the UK. Quarterly output expectations of the CBI manufacturers are explained from the monthly ONS observations
using a bounded rationality approach. The logistic formulation models the diffusion process across respondents. There is a
backward-looking CBI Survey perspective, explained by past ONS observations, and a forward-looking perspective, explained
from future ONS statistics. Also, the forecasting of monthly manufacturing output from earlier values, along with the quarterly
CBI Survey information, is examined and tested against the alternative Pesaran/Thomas method. The study provides econometric
evidence for the validity of the logistic model and shows that bounded rationality can explain the formation of predictions
among business managers in the UK manufacturing sector. The emerging consensus from the literature, supported by this paper,
is that the logistic format is a superior approximation to the true data generating process compared with the earlier standard
Anderson/Pesaran/Thomas approach. An adjustment to the Survey is used, which achieves perfect symmetry with up and down versions
of the data. The benefits of this adjustment are tested in the forecasting section.

This article explores the nature of the paradox inherent in coopetition; that is, the simultaneous pursuit of cooperation and competition between firms, and emanating tensions that develop at individual, organizational, and inter-organizational levels. We dissect the anatomy of the coopetition paradox to discover how it materializes by creating an external boundary (i.e., via unifying forces) and internal boundaries (i.e., via divergent forces). After explaining the coopetition paradox, we distinguish tension from paradox and submit that tension comprises both positive and negative emotions simultaneously, also known as emotional ambivalence. Finally, we recognize that emotional ambivalence in coopetition prevails at different levels, and vary in its level of intensity and persistency in relation to different contexts. We employ illustrative cases to ground our propositions empirically. This article provides understanding on concepts, expects to incite fruitful dialogue, and fuels further studies on inter-firm paradoxes. 相似文献

Entrepreneurial marketing has emerged as a recent perspective within the marketing field, taking the challenges and characteristics of small firms and founding teams into account. Specifically, in the early stages of entrepreneurial marketing, besides potential customers a variety of other stakeholders tend to be in the center of attention. Among these stakeholders, business angels as early-stage investors represent a vital target group. In this paper, we aim to shed light on entrepreneurial marketing in the early phases of new venture creation, in which entrepreneurial firms have an inherent need to market the value of a business opportunity toward potential investors. In particular, we contribute to the literature by introducing the business model as a narrative device for the marketing of early-stage new ventures toward potential business angels. In this regard, the business model is suggested as playing a critical role through making the inherent economic value of a technology explicit. Building on narrative theory, we investigate the role that the business model plays in the decision-making process of 17 business angels. Based on our findings, we propose a model that links the business model to a business angel's interpretation of an investment opportunity and discuss implications for theory and practice. 相似文献

As the popularity of group-based pay-for-performance plans persists, compensation researchers are exploring the conditions under which these plans contribute to the financial performance of firms. Based on a sample of 1,933 employees from 415 companies in South Korea, we found that group-based pay-for-performance plans enhance both objective and subjective measures of firm performance. Furthermore, consistent with the contingency perspective of fit, we found that empowerment practices positively moderate the relationship between group-based pay-for-performance plans and firm performance. These findings suggest that empowerment can enhance the effectiveness of such pay plans. We discuss implications for research and practice. 相似文献
