Inter‐relationships between markets and states are re‐making the world political map but in some instances these interactions have created zones of political conflict where the world political map is fraying and coming undone. In certain ‘wild zones’ of the world, state failure and illegal exchange are the prevalent processes conditioning civil and nationalist wars. This paper considers the general relationships between turbo‐globalisation, contraband capitalism, and failed states. We present a comprehensive model that integrates virtues, values, character strengths and ethical decision making (EDM). We describe how a largely consequentialist ethical framework has dominated most EDM scholarship to date. We suggest that reintroducing a virtue ethical perspective to existing EDM theories can help to illustrate deficiencies in existing decision-making models, and suggest that character strengths and motivational values can serve as natural bridges that link a virtue framework to EDM in organizations. In conjunction with the more fully formulated extant research on situational determinants, we present and discuss our model that introduces a virtue based orientation to EDM. 相似文献

Using data collected from in-depth interviews of recreational visitors to Australia's Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, place-related meanings ascribed to a marine environment are described. The usefulness of using symbolic interactionism to understand the creation of these meanings is also assessed. Ten meaning-themes emerged (aesthetic beauty, lack of built infrastructure/pristine environment, abundance and diversity of coral and other wildlife, unique natural resource, facilitation of desired recreation activity, safety and accessibility, curiosity and exploration, sense of connection to the natural world, escape from the everyday, and experiences with family and friends), and evidence supporting the utility of symbolic interactionism was identified. This study examined the underlying structure of transfer climate and those aspects of transfer climate that were related to pre‐training self‐efficacy, pre‐training motivation, and post‐training transfer implementation intentions. Positive and negative affectivity (PA and NA) were also measured in order to better understand the relationship of these variables to trainees’ perceptions of the transfer climate and the other training‐related variables. Transfer climate was best represented by two underlying constructs, although these were correlated. After controlling for PA and NA, none of the transfer climate variables were significantly related to pre‐training self‐efficacy, while only positive reinforcement was significantly related to pre‐training motivation. Pre‐training self‐efficacy was also a significant predictor of pre‐training motivation, even after controlling for PA and NA. Negative affectivity was the only significant predictor of post‐training transfer implementation intentions. Further research needs to clarify whether PA and NA are contributors to the trainees’ perceptions of the transfer climate or are a product of these perceptions. 相似文献

Sociological theory related to identity was adapted to explore the influence of identity on respondents’ perceived leisure constraints and constraint negotiation. We hypothesized that perceived constraints to recreational golf and efforts to negotiate constraints would be predicted by the degree to which respondents embraced their leisure-related identity of “golfer.” It was also hypothesized that the perception of constraints and constraint negotiation would depend upon the degree to which respondents perceive that the identities they embrace facilitate or conflict. In this paper, we empirically evaluate strategic pricing behavior and shareholder delegation of financial market objectives in the U.S. butter and margarine market. Shareholders are assumed to maximize the value of firm assets according to a certainty equivalent capital asset pricing model (CAPM). The delegation setup instructs managers to maximize a linear combination of firm profits and shareholder equity values. A key result from the analysis is that a test of financial market influences cannot be rejected in the product market for butter and margarine. Product market competition is best described using a conjectural variation model of industrial organization. Estimates of Lerner Indexes suggest significant market power and counterfactual simulations point toward significant biases in estimated Lerner Indexes when capital market dimensions are ignored or if the wrong market structure is assumed. Dans le présent article, nous avons effectué l'évaluation empirique de comportements stratégiques dans la détermination des prix et la délégation d'objectifs financiers de la part d'actionnaires sur le marchéétatsunien du beurre et de la margarine. Nous avons supposé que les actionnaires maximisent la valeur de l'actif d'une firme selon l'équivalent certain du modèle d'évaluation des actifs financiers (MEDAF). La structure de la délégation amène les gestionnaires à maximiser une combinaison linéaire des profits de la firme et de la valeur nette des actions. L'un des principaux résultats de l'analyse est qu'un test des influences du marché des capitaux sur le marché des produits ne peut être rejeté pour le cas du beurre et de la margarine. La concurrence sur le marché des produits est plus adéquatement caractérisée par un modèle d'organisation industrielle à variations conjecturales. We investigate the salience of expertise in creating high impact inventions and question experts’ ability to deploy novel ideas. Specifically, we examine the relationships between expertise, component originality, and a team's structural holes’ position in the collaborative network and propose that, in relative terms, expert teams create lower impact inventions if they deploy more original components and if they occupy structural holes. We test and confirm our hypotheses in a sample of semiconductor firms. In post‐hoc analyses, we find a three‐way interaction where the negative effect of structural holes almost disappears when an expert team experiments with original components whereas an increase in non‐redundancy is detrimental when teams with high expertise use familiar components. Our findings inform a foundational view of the invention process and provide novel insights into the contingent benefits of domain expertise. 相似文献
