The relationships among drug offenses, prorperty crime, and the allocation of police resources are investigated in a structural model using data from Florida countries. Law enforcement resources are scarce, and as efforts to combat drug crime increase the amount of these resources allocated to property crime is reduced. This reallocation of police resources results in reduced deterrence for property crime and, as a result, an increase in these crimes. The evidence presented suggests that rising property crimes in Florida are at least partially the result of drug enforcement policy. 相似文献

We present a general approach for applying policy capturing to small‐group decision making and demonstrate the approach with the NCAA Selection Committee's rankings of the 68 teams in the three most recent Division I Men's Basketball Tournaments. We develop a linear programming model that minimizes the extent to which the evaluation of a lower‐ranked team exceeds that of a team ranked immediately above it. The result is a set of linear weights that approximates a group decision when the decision itself is demonstrably internally inconsistent in that a group ranks some teams higher than others despite a lower implied evaluation. 相似文献

This article applies a labor process analysis to the issue of employment rights in the particular context of gender inequality
and unlawful discrimination in the recruitment process. It criticizes conventional perspectives on employee rights for their
failure to examine critically managerial power and prerogative and its implications for gender inequality. The article outlines
two particular labor process theories of gender divisions and inequality. In exploring the strengths and weaknesses of these
more critical perspectives, the article highlights the analytical significance that they ascribe to power asymmetries in the
labor process and labor market. Building on this perspective, the analysis then presents empirical data on gender discrimination
in the selection practices of contemporary UK organizations. The research material reveals how gender discrimination can be
reproduced, rationalized, and resisted. These empirical findings are theorized through a combined labor process analysis of
power, knowledge, and identity in recruitment practices. We conclude that labor process analysis facilitates our understanding

This paper describes simulations using fuzzy rules that show how Nash equilibrium behavior can be achieved by boundedly rational agents in two-player games with infinite strategy spaces. That is, we show how agents using simple “rules of thumb” can achieve near-equilibrium outcomes without any overt computation of the equilibrium. This is accomplished by using a genetic algorithm to approximate repeated play. Two games of differing complexities, both with analytic solutions, are examined: a repeated linear-demand Cournot game and a contestable rent game. When fuzzy rules used only the most recent information, the games we examined converged to outcomes similar to their respective Coumot-Nash equilibrium outcomes. A new computable general equilibrium model is used to predict the effects of tax rate changes on employment and other macrovariables in California. The model is dynamic in accounting for both migration and investment. The relative strength of migration, labor force participation, and investment in causing tax-rate-decrease-induced growth is examined.
