This study uses the mail survey approach to examine the association between four of the Organizational Culture Profile dimensions of O'Reilly et al. (1991) (teamwork, innovation, outcome orientation and attention to detail) and the adoption of environmental activity management (EAM). The findings indicate that three dimensions of organizational culture (teamwork, innovation and attention to detail) exhibit an association with specific dimensions of EAM. Specifically, teamwork is positively associated with the extent of use of environmental activity analysis, innovation is positively associated with the extent of use of both environmental activity cost analysis and environmental activity‐based costing (EABC) and attention to detail is positively associated with extent of use of EABC. The findings contribute to the contingency literature examining the factors influencing the adoption of environmental cost initiatives by providing managers with an insight into the organizational culture that is conducive to the implementation of EAM. According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), the incidence of domestic violence decreased during the 1990s. Understanding the causes of this decline could offer important insight into designing effective policies to continue this trend. This article uses the Area-Identified National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), the same data used to generate the DOJ's national estimates, merged with county-level variables, to examine the determinants of women reporting abuse. The results indicate that there are three important factors that likely contribute to the decline: (1) the increased provision of legal services for victims of intimate partner abuse, (2) improvements in women's economic status, and (3) demographic trends, most notably the aging of the population.  相似文献

We present a two-good, two-country overlapping generations model where emissions arise from production and each country has a domestic emission permit system. When one country unilaterally reduces her cap on emissions, her output available for domestic and foreign consumption diminishes more than in the other country. With unchanged consumption expenditure shares for both goods the domestic terms of trade improve, while capital stocks decline in the reducing and less strongly in the non-reducing country. Improving terms of trade in the reducing country and falling capital stocks lead in total to welfare losses in both countries. However, if the country which unilaterally reduces her emission permits is a net creditor to the world economy and the Golden Rule applies, her own welfare loss remains below that of the non-reducing country.  相似文献

This article studies strategic default—the willingness of a borrower to walk away from a mortgage when the value of the home falls below the unpaid principal balance despite an ability to pay. This study differs from the literature in two fundamental ways. First, we use unique data assets describing the household's equity position and capacity to carry the debt in addition to credit performance to identify strategic defaulters accurately. Second, we address externalities from local foreclosures and other strategic defaults and find that the incidence of strategic default is sensitive to the presence of other nearby strategic defaulters. These results have significant implications for foreclosure and loss mitigation policies employed by servicers and investors.  相似文献
