The role of a business school and form of management education in any country must depend on the specific role of management in the economy. This, in turn, depends on the milieu or business ambience in which management must operate. A set of types of milieu can be distinguished for ASEAN countries which form a sequence approximately correlated with the process of modernisation. This paper describes simulations using fuzzy rules that show how Nash equilibrium behavior can be achieved by boundedly rational agents in two-player games with infinite strategy spaces. That is, we show how agents using simple “rules of thumb” can achieve near-equilibrium outcomes without any overt computation of the equilibrium. This is accomplished by using a genetic algorithm to approximate repeated play. Two games of differing complexities, both with analytic solutions, are examined: a repeated linear-demand Cournot game and a contestable rent game. When fuzzy rules used only the most recent information, the games we examined converged to outcomes similar to their respective Coumot-Nash equilibrium outcomes. When fuzzy rules “remembered” play from the more distant past, we found that the games converged more slowly, if at all. 相似文献

A new computable general equilibrium model is used to predict the effects of tax rate changes on employment and other macrovariables in California. The model is dynamic in accounting for both migration and investment. The relative strength of migration, labor force participation, and investment in causing tax-rate-decrease-induced growth is examined. Changes in the volume and velocity of data have led many organizations to consider assessing and improving analytics capabilities. The purpose of this research is to describe a methodology developed to assess organizations’ analytics capabilities and explore the empirical value of data collected using this methodology. The measurement for analytics capabilities was developed by IBM during 2009–11 marketing efforts. To assess the data’s empirical value, we investigate whether measurements of analytics capabilities are internally consistent, associated with decisions to invest in analytics software and hardware, and able to explain firm profitability. In analyzing consistency, we find a natural sequence in the development of analytics capabilities. Exploring decisions to invest in analytics, we discover that firms with higher levels of capabilities are more likely to invest, as are firms that are larger and located in more profitable industries. However, we find no relationship between analytics capabilities and firm profitability. 相似文献

Materialism has been at the centre of the consumer behaviour literature for decades. Despite a huge number of studies that have shed light on its antecedents and consequences, it is still not clear how a materialistic orientation evolves and becomes prevalent in line with socioeconomic transitions in a country. The current research aims to analyze possible reasons why different generations of consumers in China have become more or less materialistic. Data were collected from 613 consumers in two cities, representing three focal generational cohorts, labelled, in chronological order, the Cultural Revolution Generation, the Economic Reform Generation and the Social Change Generation. Traditional Chinese cultural values are shown to still play a significant role in the formation of materialism in China, serving to curtail the prevalence of materialism. This paper considers the impact of full Islamic shari’ya compliance on developing stock exchanges in their effective provision of development capital. Evidence from a unique study focussing on the Sudan telecommunications company and its listings on the Khartoum as well as Arabian Gulf stock exchanges reveals that costs of capital are considerably higher in the former than latter markets. While there are firm governance benefits arising from Islamic finance monitoring costs are substantial and the banking system is better placed to administer financing arrangements. The article begins with a review of four major worldviews and the risk preferences of each. Next, it examines psychological processes that guide human decision making and greatly influence risk perception. The article then applies these worldviews and psychological phenomena to the case of risk management. It offers a critique of current risk management practices, drawing on evidence from the 2007–2008 financial crisis. It has long been recognized that business cycle comovement is greater between countries that trade more intensively with one another. However, nations face shocks to both the cyclical and trend components of their GDP series. Contrary to the result for cyclical fluctuations, we find comovement of shocks to the trend component of real GDP is weaker among countries that trade more intensively with one another. We simulate changes in ten-year output growth correlations corresponding to the estimated effects of trade and show that the impact of trade on trend comovement is quantitatively more important than its effect on cyclical comovement. 相似文献

Sequels have become a profitable strategy in the U.S. motion picture industry because of their strong name recognition. However, while the established positioning of a sequel may help insulate it from competing firms' advertising messages, its familiarity may cause moviegoers to be more easily satiated with advertising from the sequel. Therefore, this study examines how sequels differ from original concept movies in terms of their ad effectiveness. We focus our analysis on pre-launch periods, given these periods' importance in shaping the financial outcomes of motion pictures. We consider the weekly online search volume of a movie as a measure of consumer interest in it, and thus as an intermediate response to pre-launch advertising. We then develop a model that assumes ad effectiveness can decline, due to copy and repetition wearout, and increase, due to forgetting, over time. We find that copy wearout is greater for original movies, while repetition wearout and forgetting are greater for sequels. These findings suggest that sequels should allocate more in early pre-launch periods and less immediately before release, relative to originals, to maximize pre-launch consumer interest. 相似文献
