This exploratory study analyses the factors that affect the selection of a contract, alliance or joint venture for collaborative activity. The findings, based on a sample of 441 announcements made by UK firms, reveal that although no unequivocal support exists for either the agency- or transaction cost economics-based explanations of vehicle choice, the decision does appear to have a strategic element. In addition, the results suggest that while the three forms of inter-firm arrangement are often viewed as points on a continuum, the key decision relates to whether or not to establish a joint venture. In the light of these initial findings, future research might most usefully investigate decision-making of this type on a case-by-case basis, rather than attempting to induce pervasive explanations of the process. 相似文献

The purpose of the analysis has been to investigate the determinants of the household's decisions regarding the purchase of meat in Great Britain. The approach, using a Box-Cox generalization of the ‘double hurdle’ model, has depicted the household making two choices, namely whether or not to purchase the product (the participation decision) and then, for those households which do purchase, how much to buy (the expenditure decision). The determinants considered are socioeconomic variables, such as the total expenditure of the household, market prices, characteristics of the householder (age, gender, education, type of employment) and characteristics of the household (location, presence of children, etc.). By conducting the analysis over several years of survey data (1975–1993) it is possible to investigate whether the influence of these variables has changed over time. Allocation of fish resources is a controversial subject. This is partly because of our limited understanding of the values of fishing opportunities. This study investigates fishing site choices in Western Australia using national survey data covering eight major fishing regions and forty‐eight fishing sites. We estimate a random utility model (RUM) of site choice with a supporting negative binomial model of angler‐specific expected catch rates. Excessive alcohol consumption constitutes a global health problem, and despite increasing efforts to promote safe drinking, spending on alcohol advertising far outweighs spending on safe-drinking messages. Twitter represents a new channel for social marketing, but its use to promote safe drinking has not been examined. In this study, six Twitter accounts maintained by advocates of safe drinking and/or abstinence were compared with six accounts maintained by alcohol companies using a mixed-method design. The Twitter accounts of alcohol companies were followed by more people, and their tweets were more likely to use interactive features such as hashtags, to be forwarded to others, and to be associated with positive stimuli, suggesting greater interactivity and influence than prohealth Twitter messages. The results suggest social marketers may benefit from adopting the practices of for-profit marketers to increase the visibility of, engagement with, and influence of their tweets. 相似文献

We provide empirical restrictions of a model of optimal order submissions in a limit order market. A trader's optimal order submission depends on the trader's valuation for the asset and the trade-offs between order prices, execution probabilities and picking off risks. The optimal order submission strategy is a monotone function of a trader's valuation for the asset. We test the monotonicity restriction in a sample of order submissions and their realized outcomes from the Stockholm Stock Exchange. We do not reject the monotonicity restriction for buy orders or sell orders considered separately, but reject the monotonicity restriction for buy and sell orders considered jointly. 相似文献

Limited dependent variable models are employed to determine factors influencing UK household meat purchase behaviour. The standard Tobit approach is rejected. “Double hurdle” models, specifically the Cragg and Complete Dominance versions, provide a better representation of the factors that influence the separate decisions of participation and expenditure levels. Key results show that employment class and adult gender are significant determinants of participation but not expenditure; income affects both decisions but in opposite directions; education affects expenditure alone. 相似文献

There has been a lack of communication between leisure researchers and both its potential users and sponsors. From a policy perspective the important questions are relevance and focus: a framework is needed for considering different types of leisure research. One such framework is that of Breton, whose typology of public policy research is based on two dimensions: indirect (monitoring) or direct (intervention) influence, and institutional levels (concern with instrumentalities, organization or basic ideas and values). Twitter provides an important channel for brands to seed electronic word of mouth (eWOM) by followers retweeting brand messages, but prior research has not established a theoretical framework for how brands can maximise eWOM. This study presents and tests a theoretical model incorporating interactive, textual and visual tweet features to predict eWOM, using tweets by leading brands from three industries. Industry was found to be an important moderator of the effect of tweet features; after controlling for the reach and frequency of tweets, hashtags, retweet requests and photos were consistently associated with a higher retweet rate across industries, but the effect of URL links, non-initial mentions and video varied across industries, in some cases decreasing the retweet rate.
