Generational differences: An examination of work values and generational gaps in the hospitality workforce

The purpose of this study is to identify generational differences and similarities among hospitality employees and managers in order to develop leadership strategies and management styles that can be utilized to increase employee morale and productivity while enhancing recruitment and retention rates of highly qualified workers. Data for this study were collected through a series of in-depth focus group discussions. Findings indicated significant generational differences in world views, attitudes toward authority and perspectives on work. Findings suggested the Baby Boomers respect authority and hierarchy, while the Generation X-ers (Gen X-ers) rebel against authority. Findings also suggested while Baby Boomers live to work, Gen X-ers work to live. The Baby Boomers are willing to wait their turn for promotions and rewards, and are very loyal. On the other hand, Gen X-ers expect immediate recognition through title, praise, promotion, and pay. They also want a life outside of work—they are not likely to sacrifice theirs for the company. The Millennial Generation believes in collective action, with optimism of the future, and trust in centralized authority. They like teamwork, showing a strong will to get things done with a great spirit.     

Does international capital flow lead to a housing boom? A time-varying evidence from China

This paper examines the causal relationship between the housing prices (HP) and the international capital flows (ICF) in China. With structural changes existing, we find that long-run relationship using full-sample data is unstable, suggesting that traditional Granger causality test is not reliable. However, we further find an unstable short-run relationship between ICF and HP when assessing the stability of the parameters and there are bidirectional causal relationships between ICF and HP for several sub-periods. Additionally, our findings indicate both positive and negative bidirectional causal relations between the series. Based on the arbitrage of ICF, the results suggest that the rise of Chinese HP is the underlying force for the inflows of international capital. Meanwhile, a surge in capital inflows may be accompanied by a rise in the price of housing. This confirms the theoretical analysis that there is an interconnected transmission mechanism between the ICF and the HP, which is diverse and depends both on the flow of ICF and on other factors.     

国际资本引入对商业银行效率影响的实证研究

引入国际战略投资者是国内商业银行提高自身竞争力的有效途径之一。本文首先对引入国际资本后可能产生的各项效应进行分析,继而运用数据包络分析(DEA)方法对引入国际战略投资者前后各商业银行的效率进行了测度,说明其变化情况;并以可能造成效率变化的因素为自变量,银行效率为因变量建立线形回归模型,发现资本充足率高低对银行效率并无直接影响,但产权结构与银行效率显著相关。最后给出相关政策建议。     

北京实施免耕及经济补偿问题研究

免耕是保护性耕作的一种措施,能有效地防治地表起沙,具有很好的保水保墒效应。本文通过实地调研、和农民及相关部门访谈,指出北京推广免耕主要存在农机具、粮食产量、农民接受程度、现行管理体制以及免耕技术等方面的问题。要顺利推广免耕措施,还需要大量宣传,提高农民的接受程度,并实施"技术补贴+生态补偿"的经济补偿措施。经济补偿可以按照机具投入2600元/hm2来折算补偿给地方政府,按照秸秆效益4500元/hm2来补偿农户。同时,还应通过建立和完善"农业环境保护补偿基金"和"农业环境保护组织"等,以扩大资金渠道,加强组织管理,保证免耕的可持续实施。     

中国农产品内生技术性贸易措施：地位与效应

WTO框架下具有合理性的技术性贸易措施是中国农产品贸易领域实施管理的有效手段。文章利用频数比率对其进行量化研究,认为技术性贸易措施在我国农产品进口管理体系中已替代关税居于主要地位,但相应于地位的变化,其建设尚显滞后,限制效应较差。对此,文章从完善进口安全监管体制,加强标准认证和风险评估,建立进口环节技术性贸易措施分析系统及预警机制等几个方面提出相应建议。

Moderators of the negativity effect: Commitment,identification, and consumer sensitivity to corporate social performance

Numerous studies have identified constructs such as commitment and brand familiarity as moderators of negativity effects. However, boundary conditions for this moderation have yet to be identified within a retailing context. This study tries to rectify this gap in the literature. This study finds that three factors (commitment, consumer–company identification, and consumer sensitivity to corporate social performance) moderate attitude change toward a retailer following exposure to moderately negative (vs. positive) publicity. However, given extremely negative information, the buffering effects of the moderating factors disappear, and attitude changes are significant for all consumers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Optimal reinsurance arrangements in the presence of two reinsurers

In this paper, we investigate the optimal form of reinsurance from the perspective of an insurer when he decides to cede part of the loss to two reinsurers, where the first reinsurer calculates the premium by expected value principle while the premium principle adopted by the second reinsurer satisfies three axioms: distribution invariance, risk loading, and preserving stop-loss order. In order to exclude the moral hazard, a typical reinsurance treaty assumes that both the insurer and reinsurers are obligated to pay more for the larger loss. Under the criterion of minimizing value at risk (VaR) or conditional value at risk (CVaR) of the insurer's total risk exposure, we show that an optimal reinsurance policy is to cede two adjacent layers, where the upper layer is distributed to the first reinsurer. To further illustrate the applicability of our results, we derive explicitly the optimal layer reinsurance by assuming a generalized Wang's premium principle to the second reinsurer.
