This paper aims to propose a feasible framework for estimating the efficiency of input factors for banks and the adjustment of these factors necessary to achieve full efficiency in the short and long term. Based on a sample of 39 Taiwanese banks during 1999–2011, the framework recommends a scheme along with a set of adjustments empirically that allow the banks to not only achieve full efficiency but also save 10.3% of the total costs in the short term and 8.8% in the long term. This scheme amounts to short‐term and long‐term savings of NT$3.6 billion and NT$3.1 billion, respectively. (JEL C23, D24, G21) 相似文献

Travel guidebooks are one of the information sources used by tourists. This study applies and extends the information needs model proposed by Vogt and Fesenmaier to examine what Hong Kong residents specifically required from their pre-trip use of guidebooks. In-depth interviews were conducted with 15 leisure travelers, and 402 questionnaires subsequently distributed. A factor analysis is employed to show that as well as the five original needs from the model (functional, hedonic, innovation, aesthetic and sign needs), five more needs can be identified. These are itinerary improvement, travel partner, quality information, personal interest, and security needs. Functional needs are found to be the dominant factor and sign needs the least significant. The results of independent t-test and one-way ANOVA reveal that the importance placed on different needs varies according to age, education, income, planned destination, mode of travel, length of trip, number of visits and travel companions. The study makes recommendations for how travel guidebooks can better appeal to these needs and capture the attention of potential users. 相似文献

This study proposes a measurement to evaluate corporate sustainability marketing communications on social media implemented by Fortune 500 enterprises. The results reveal significant differences between sustainability marketing communications in blogs and on Facebook. This study makes theoretical contributions by proposing a customer‐centric SMC framework that integrates sustainability issues, stimulation of sustainable mindsets and encouragement of sustainable consumption. It also demonstrates how corporate sustainability marketing communications differ on different social media. In addition, practical suggestions are provided. Abstract. This paper reports the findings of a survey of non-tariff trade barriers (NTBs) that firms in the Pacific Rim region frequently encounter. NTBs are categorized into restrictions on market access, restrictions on personnel movement and transparency of regulatory information. We find that NTBs seem particularly prominent for the region, given the diverse character of the economies there. Many NTBs are implicit in the sense that they restrict trade by cumbersome administrative procedures and by various problems arising from interpreting or implementing government regulations. We further find that NTBs have a significant impact on firms’ production costs, revenue and expansion plans. 相似文献

The findings of the chief executive officer (CEO) characteristics–research and development (R&D) investment relationship remain incomplete if previous unexamined contingencies are not considered. Very few studies in this area have invariably focused on the constraints from the external environment and overlooked the important influence of board social capital on such relationship. This study uses insights from resource dependence theory to examine how the effects of CEO characteristics on R&D investment are contingent on board social capital. The results show that board social capital mitigates/enhances the negative/positive effect of CEO tenure/CEO educational level on R&D investment, supporting the view that board social capital, as an important conduit to link firms to critical information and essential resources in the environment, may offer better counsel to CEOs and enhance their decision‐making capabilities in moving toward R&D. One important implication is that firms wishing to encourage innovation through R&D spending should consider nominating directors with rich social capital to the board because they may assist CEOs in coping with R&D complexities and acquiring requisite resources, leading to a better planning of R&D. 相似文献

In a set-up of two local firms and one foreign firm, we construct a model to capture the dynamics of local industrial structure induced by formation and breakdown of cross-border joint ventures (JVs). There is a synergic gain to the JV, and the partners learn from each other. Firms play a repeated game. We characterize the resulting industrial configurations under different scenarios as defined by the extent of cost saving. In particular, we show that when cost saving is moderate, an alliance formed between two firms in the first period, breaks up and a new alliance is formed in the second period, but again it breaks up; thereafter the market becomes an oligopoly of all three firms. 相似文献

This paper analyses various dimensions of operational efficiencies in major Asia Pacific airports through Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models that simultaneously account for external macroeconomics and price factors. Results from this study show that technical, scale and mix efficiencies are high among the major Asia Pacific airports. In addition, significant disparities in cost efficiencies were detected amongst these airports. These disparities can be attributed to the presence of country-specific effect and differences in allocative efficiencies. A virtual airport is then introduced as a superior performer to rank the efficiency performances of airports. 相似文献

Motivated by recent empirical findings on the relationship between new clinical evidence and the effectiveness of detailing,
this paper develops a new structural model of detailing and prescribing decisions under the environment where both manufacturers
and physicians are uncertain about drug qualities. Our model assumes (1) a representative opinion leader is responsible for
updating the prior belief about the quality of drugs via consumption experiences and clinical trial outcomes, and (2) manufacturers
use detailing as a means to build/maintain the measure of physicians who are informed of the current information sets. Unlike
previous learning models with informative detailing, our model directly links the effectiveness of detailing to the current
information sets and the measures of well-informed physicians. To illustrate the empirical implications of the new model,
we estimate our model using a product level panel data on sales volume, prices, detailing minutes, and clinical trial outcomes
for ACE-inhibitors with diuretics in Canada. Using our estimates, we demonstrate how the effectiveness of detailing depends
on the information sets and the measures of well-informed physicians. Furthermore, we conduct a policy experiment to examine
how a public awareness campaign, which encourages physicians/patients to report their drug experiences, would affect managerial
incentives to detail. The results demonstrate that the empirical and managerial implications of our model can be very different
from those of previous models. We argue that our results point out the importance of developing a structural model that captures
the mechanism of how detailing/advertising conveys information in the market under study. 相似文献
