Since the beginning of the 20th century, the principal commercial maritime routes have changed very little. With global warming, the Northern Sea Route (NSR) has opened up as a possible avenue of trade in containerized products between Asia and Europe. This paper verifies the technical and economic feasibility of regular container transport along the NSR. By adopting a model schedule between Shanghai and Hamburg, we are able to analyze the relative costs of various axes in the Asia–Europe transport network, including the NSR. While shipping through the Suez Canal is still by far the least expensive option, the NSR and Trans-Siberian Railway appear to be roughly equivalent second-tier alternatives. 相似文献

This study proposes to investigate the threshold effects in the productivity of infrastructure investment in developing countries. It concludes to their presence in the relationship between output and private and public inputs as well as network effects in the productivity of infrastructure. When the available stock of infrastructure is low, investment has the same productivity as non‐infrastructure investment. On the contrary, when a minimum network is available, the marginal productivity of infrastructure investment is greater than the productivity of other investments. This article analyses the liberalization of public services with a special focus on the (re)regulation process that is induced. Firstly, a conceptual framework is developed in order to identify the constitutive elements of the public regulation related to market competition, public service obligations, operators and public property, as well as the tension between them. Secondly, a comparative study describes the liberalization and the regulatory design of the electricity sector in England, France, Germany, Norway and Switzerland. issue of how outlets can gain a greater share of consumer expenditures. One such way is to increase repeat purchases through
loyalty programs. This article examines the impact of loyalty programs, which target existing customers, on repurchase behavior
in grocery stores. It finds that heavier, more frequent customers of a store enroll in the loyalty program earlier; that buying
behavior changes only slightly after buyers join the program; and that small changes in loyalty appear to erode 6–9 months

We investigate how international operations affected firm value during the early 1990s. We also investigate whether the disclosures of foreign operations in specific geographic regions under SFAS No. 14 provide investors with useful information beyond disclosure of aggregate foreign operations. We find that in the early 1990s, investors do not value international operations as highly as domestic operations, and that geographic region disclosures are not useful for conveying information about the specific location and magnitude of the firm's operations. This latter finding supports the recent FASB decision that eliminated the requirement that firms break out foreign operating statistics by geographic region. 相似文献
