In this study, IQ and EQ determinants of pre-eminent achievement in organizations were explored to help HRM specialists in selecting more appropriate job applicants, having potential for outstanding performance in their career paths. Several EQ elements were proved the most important in the achievement. However, IQ elements still play a very important role in superior performance. Results also exhibit that correlation of IQ and EQ levels of superior performers is significant and strong. In conclusion, HRM specialists have to test both IQ and EQ in the hiring process, to create a high-performing workforce in their organizations. 相似文献

The set of real properties sold during a given period of time may be subdivided into several subsets comprising those properties that sold only once, only twice, and three or more times. The major reason for subdividing the sample is to allow estimation of residential price indices by the repeat-sales methodology. The purpose of this paper is to compare price indices estimated with the repeat subsample to indices based on the entire sample.
Our data for five metropolitan areas indicate that cumulative price trends for the repeat subsamples can differ from the full samples over periods ranging from two to ten quarters. While short-term price trends can differ widely, there are no systematic differences among the samples over periods of three years or more. The data indicate that arbitrage typically forces prices for the repeat sample to grow at the same rate as those for the full sample. Whether this would be the case in areas experiencing greater disequilibrium than our towns in the Hartford area is uncertain. 相似文献

We present a laboratory experiment that measures the effects of group identity—one's perceived membership in social groups—on market transactions in an oligopoly market with a few sellers and buyers. We artificially induce group identity using art preferences and college majors in different treatments, respectively. Subjects are randomly assigned into the roles of buyers and sellers and interact repeatedly. We find that the presence of groups influences both the selection of trading partners and the determination of prices. All else equal, sellers are more likely to make offers to ingroup buyers, and the buyers are more likely to accept offers from ingroup sellers. There are considerable intergroup price differentials with the outgroup sellers charging a lower price than the ingroup sellers. 相似文献

Abstract The gender wage gap in the United States narrowed considerably throughout the 1980s and then more slowly in the 1990s. Using a decomposition methodology and US Current Population Survey data, this study investigates the impact of deindustrialization's continuing shift in employment away from manufacturing to services on the US gender wage gap between 1990 and 2001. The study finds that the widening of the gender wage gap in the service sector caused a slowdown in the narrowing of the US gender wage gap. Within the service sector, two occupational elements affected the growing gender wage gap: women's entry into traditionally male occupations characterized by high wages and high gender wage differentials that resulted in the relative increase in men's wages compared to women's wages in these occupations. 相似文献

Over the last years, proposals for the implementation of capacity mechanisms in Germany have been published. However, some basic questions have not been answered yet: regarding the need for capacities, the functioning of the energy-only-market and the objective and type of a possible capacity mechanism. The actual need for capacities is an important input factor for capacity mechanisms and crucial to determine whether these are required. Currently, uncertainties prevail due to differing assumptions regarding the capacity credits of renewables and other capacities. Existing studies show highly diverse estimates for capacity needs after 2020. It is also unclear whether the energy-only-market can provide sufficient investment incentives. The current low prices cannot be interpreted as a sign for market failure. They represent overcapacities due to European integration and increasing renewable shares. The mid-term effects of increasing renewable shares on electricity prices still need to be analyzed in detail. At last, the objective of a capacity mechanism is not clear in the German context. This makes the selection of an adequate capacity mechanism and an effective market design more complicated. Furthermore, effects on the energy market need to be considered. Parameterization errors can be expensive. Also, capacity mechanisms do not necessarily guarantee higher investment security. As a consequence, the authors advise against the prompt introduction of a capacity mechanism, especially as the new EnWG guarantees the operation of system-relevant power plants until 2017. Instead, an incremental improvement of the energy-only market and in-depth analysis of the described questions seam necessary. 相似文献

This study focuses on the current account deficit dynamics and sustainability, using data of the period between 1990:Q1 and 2014:Q2 in the context of Turkish economy. The main findings of the study can be put into two categories. The first category covers energy consumption, openness rate, gross domestic product, exchange rate and investments, which are the most important determinants of the current deficit. The second one asserts that sustainability is weak for Turkish economy; however, it is even weaker during the economic contraction. There is extensive literature about structure and sustainability of the current account deficit. However, many of the studies have analysed the sustainability of the current account deficits without considering the economic conjuncture. The involvement construct has received a great deal of attention in recent years. However, the majority of research on this topic has focused on internal tourists, recreational activities participants, or associated services and products. Using survey data collected from European leisure tourists at an international destination, this study examined the underlying dimensions of their involvement. Scale unidimensionality is first revealed by an exploratory factor analysis and validated by a confirmatory factor analysis. The data suggested that this is a three dimensional construct: pleasure/interest, risk probability, and risk importance. Malaysia’s economic success is to a significant extent underpinned by its export‐oriented manufacturing sector. The sector has a large foreign presence, with MNCs attracted by the open trade and investment regime, and FDI‐friendly policies. Using unpublished manufacturing census data for 2000 and 2005, we apply the methodology by Foster et al. (1998) to decompose productivity growth. The analysis shows that exporters were more productive than domestic‐oriented establishments, and were distinctly more competitive. The empirical evidence also shows that establishment turnover is important in boosting productivity growth. In particular, we find that turnover of exporters made a larger contribution to aggregate productivity growth compared with domestic‐oriented establishments during the period from 2000 to 2005. Surviving establishments (those that operated in both years), on the other hand, made a negative contribution. It is noteworthy that entrants to export markets were more productive than surviving non‐exporters and even surviving exporters. Exiters from export markets or ‘export failures’, on the other hand, were less productive than continuing exporters. Given the importance of turnover to productivity growth, the government should ensure unrestricted entry to the export sectors for both foreign and domestic investors. Continuing with pro‐FDI policies is also important, given the keener global competition. 相似文献

Price discrimination is generally thought to improve firm profits by allowing firms to extract more consumer surplus. In competition,
however, price discrimination may also be costly to the firm because restrictive incentive compatibility conditions may allow
the competing firm to gain market share at the discriminating firm’s expense. Therefore, with asymmetric competition, it may
be the case that one firm would let the other firm assume the burden of price discrimination. We investigate optimal segmentation
in a market with two asymmetric firms and two heterogeneous consumer segments that differ in the importance of price and product
attributes. In particular, we investigate second-degree price discrimination under competition with explicit incentive compatibility
constraints thus extending prior work in marketing and economics. Focusing on the managerial implications, we explore whether
it would be profitable for either or both firms to pursue a segmentation strategy using rebates as a mechanism. We identify
conditions under which one or both firms would want to pursue such segmentation. We find that segmentation lessens competition
for the less price-sensitive consumer segment and that this results in higher profits to both firms. A key to understanding
this result is that segmentation leads to consumer remixing. We establish the key result that if firms are asymmetric in their
attractiveness to consumers, the disadvantaged firm in our model is more likely to pursue a segmentation strategy than its
rival in equilibrium. We then ask whether this result prevails in practice. To this end, we explore competitive segmentation
empirically and are able to verify that disadvantaged firms indeed pursue segmentation through rebates with greater likelihood. 相似文献
