This study examines an extended version of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) in the context of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) as an aid to smoking cessation. An attempt is made to address the intention–behaviour gap identified in the literature by specifically focusing on the role and interrelationships of volitional stages, namely intention, planning and anticipated effort. A convenience sample of 207 female smokers, aged 16–36, provided information about their views, attitudes and volitional behaviour regarding the use of NRT as an aid to smoking cessation. Results of this study show the TPB to be pertinent, accounting for 41% of the variance in intention to use NRT as an aid to smoking cessation. Furthermore, behavioural intention is found to mediate the relationship between the TPB antecedents (attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioural control) and each of the two volitional elements, planning and anticipated effort. The collapse of the Ohio Deposit Guarantee Fund in March 1985 provides a laboratory for examining the financial market's belief in the incentive-conflict model proposed by Kane (1989). Research in this area has yet to examine the stock returns of federally insured institutions during that period in the context of this model. Thus, it has not addressed the question of whether financial market participants recognize the implications of the model; that is, whether they anticipate the bailouts it implies. This paper fills that void.We find that on average, stocks of firms insured by the poorly capitalized FSLIC do reasonably well during the 41-day event window centered on the ODGF's Bank Holiday, while stocks of firms insured by the relatively well-capitalized FDIC do not. More important, differences in abnormal returns of FDIC and FSLIC firms are consistent with a reaffirmation of the incentive-conflict model. 相似文献

In designing data systems for food and nutrition planning, little attention has been given to the type of data which may be needed at different stages of the planning process, ie political motivation and definition of policies, selection of programmes, geographical distribution of resources within a programme, delivery of services at the local level and monitoring of changes. Public utilities which apply roughly uniform prices to all consumers often engage in cross-subsidisation — charging prices which are below cost for consumers in low population density areas but above cost for consumers in high density areas. The distributional and allocative implications of this practice are examined and it is concluded that some cross-subsidisation may be justifiable on welfare grounds even where no externalities exist. There is, however, little empirical evidence released by utilities to enable assessment of the efficiency of their practices. The property of “monotonicity” is necessary, and in many contexts, sufficient, for a solution to be Nash implementable (Maskin
1977). In this paper, we follow Sen (1995) and evaluate the extent to which a solution may fail monotonicity by identifying
the minimal way in which it has to be enlarged so as to satisfy the property. We establish a general result relating the “minimal
monotonic extensions” of the intersection and the union of a family of solutions to the minimal monotonic extensions of the
members of the family. We then calculate the minimal monotonic extensions of several solutions in a variety of contexts, such
as classical exchange economies, with either individual endowments or a social endowment, economies with public goods, and
one-commodity economies in which preferences are single-peaked. For some of the examples, very little is needed to recover
monotonicity, but for others, the required enlargement is quite considerable, to the point that the distributional objective
embodied in the solution has to be given up altogether.

The main objective of this paper was to analyse how sustainable development indicators impacted upon the integration of sustainable development into the governing of Scotland. A major concern was whether an accounting technology could represent this complex multi-dimensional and interdisciplinary concept. We analysed the relationship between the official sustainable development strategy of the Scottish Executive and the associated indicator set using an analytics of government framework (Dean, M. (1999). Governmentality: Power and rule in modern society. London: Sage Publications. Dean, M. (2007). Governing societies. Berkshire: Open University Press). We observed a lack of alignment between these sustainable development indicators and the visions, fields of visibilities, forms of knowledge and techniques of government contained in this strategy. Critical aspects of this strategy were omitted from the indicator set and we argue that these indicators did not to effectively measure progress towards a Sustainable Scotland but that they could calculatively capture and distort the sustainable development governing process. The analytical framework used allowed us to problematise these indicators and contribute to a wider discourse on the composition and nature of sustainable development indicators. 相似文献

The paper evaluates a Victorian environmental account of the pollution of the River Wandle. This account was produced during a period of social and environmental crisis, when there were no significant industrial environmental regulations. This problematising external environmental account provides valuable insights into the historical development of social and environmental accounting. Our analysis located this account within an institutional reform programme to create systems of governance to mitigate the damage arising from unfettered industrial growth. We argue that problematising external environmental accounting has a longer tradition than previously recognised in the literature and predates corporate social and environmental reporting. 相似文献

Landlords offering a house in the rental market face a difficult strategic pricing decision. The revenue maximizing decision
for the landlord involves a tradeoff between the rental rate and time on the market. Because the turnover of renters is higher
than owners, and because the landlord must bear some carrying costs on a vacant house, pricing the rent too high may decrease
revenue due to a higher vacancy period and pricing it too low may reduce the revenue when occupied. While there is substantial
research on the relationship between listed prices and time on the market for freehold interests, this is the first study
to provide empirical evidence on the relationship between asking rent, contract rent and time on the market for single family
residential rental (leasehold) property interests. We present two models; a rental price model and a duration model for time-on-the
market. Using data from the Dallas–Fort Worth area we find that landlords who set a lower asking rent relative to predicted
rent can expect a shorter marketing period for their properties. The results also indicate that overpricing the asking rent
and then lowering it at a later date leads to a longer marketing time (after the reset) and often a lower rent. These finding
are reasonably robust for low-, mid-, and higher-valued rental properties.
