The aim of this study is to ascertain, in an international tourism context, whether there are cultural discrepancies between hotel employees who have been educated and trained in a host country, and guests who have traveled to that country, given that each group is imbued with their own national culture. The findings indicate that not only do Thai frontline hotel employees have different expectations about the behavior of Japanese and Korean customers, but that the expectations of both customer groups concerning their own behavior differ from those of Thai employees. A significant gap was found in perceptions of actual behavior between the international customers and hotel staff, suggesting that cultural discrepancies are indeed present, but also vary by ethnicity. The scale of the discrepancy between Thai employees’ perceptions of Japanese tourists’ behavior, for example, was larger than in the case of the Korean customers. This paper examines the effects of enrollment in a health maintenance organization (HMO) or a preferred provider organization (PPO) on the functional status of near-elderly adults (aged 55–64), compared to traditional fee-for-service (FFS) plans. A sample of 1306 near-elderly adults with employer-sponsored health insurance are drawn from the 2000–2002 waves of the Health and Retirement Study, a nationally representative panel survey of community-dwelling adults. Regression models are estimated to assess the effects of different types of insurance plans on functionality, as measured by whether or not the individual has any functional limitations. The potential influence of selection bias into alternative types of plans is addressed by limiting the sample to near-elders without a choice of health plans. The effects of HMOs on functionality are shown to be comparable to those of FFS plans among the general near-elderly population. However, significant adverse effects of HMO enrollment on functional status are observed among near-elders with chronic conditions. PPO enrollees have similar functional outcome to FFS enrollees, even among those with chronic conditions. The observed differences in functional outcome across plans have important implications for the practicality of managed care plans serving older adults. 相似文献

In recent years, major disasters have figured prominently in the media. While corporate response to disasters may have raised
corporate philanthropy to a new level, it remains an understudied phenomenon. This article draws on comparative research on
corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate philanthropy to explore the geography of corporate philanthropic disaster
response. The study analyzes donation announcements made by Fortune Global 500 firms from North America, Europe and Asia to
look for regional patterns across three recent disasters: the South Asian Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, and the Kashmiri earthquake.
The results reveal inter-regional differences in the overall likelihood of donations and in their cash value, in addition
to the identification of home-region- and local presence effects. Implications for researchers and practitioners are discussed.

This article describes a case study on the Machiguenga, a remote Indigenous tribe affected by the Camisea Gas Project in
the Peru. We introduce the anthropological concept of ‘glocalization’ and integrate this with organizational knowledge of
‘identity work’. Our findings demonstrate that identity work is a multi-faceted and boundary spanning process that significantly
affects stakeholder relations and contributes to conflict between local communities and oil and gas companies. Indigenous
identity can be both threatened and strengthened in response to natural gas development and is related to how individuals,
communities and the Machiguenga (as a collective) engage in identity work. We also discuss broader implications for management
