BLACK-CONTROLLED CREDIT UNIONS: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

This paper is a comparative study of black- and nonblack-controlled credit unions. The results indicate operational differences that distinguish black credit unions from previous results for black banks and black savings and loan associations. Many of these differences can be attributed to institutional characteristics resulting from the three distinct types of credit unions. The major contribution of the paper is that the striking similarities between black banks and black savings and loan associations do not in general apply to black credit unions.     

A scheduling strategy for computer-managed instructional systems

Requirements for scheduling techniques for educational systems involving large-scale, computer managed, individualized instruction systems differ significantly from scheduling techniques for similar systems involving traditional educational technologies. This paper reports on the development and testing of a scheduling system for the Advanced Instructional System of the U.S. Air Force. The scheduling system was tested using computer simulation. Simulation results showed how the system would perform with various resource levels, student loads, and entrance frequencies. Results of the simulation suggested a number of recommendations for program management.     

Social class and consumer behavior: A review for the 70's

Stratification of American society creates social classes— large groups of people sharing approximately the same life styles who are ranked according to social prestige. Class membership is determined on the basis of occupation, artifacts, association, and influence. Classes themselves are measured empirically through reputational, subjective, and objective techniques. The most popular models of American class structure provide for five or six distinct social strata. In recent years, however, divisions have become somewhat blurred by the spread of affluence and rapid social change.
