Unemployment insurance recipients in the Netherlands were for many years exempted from the requirement to actively search for a job after they reached the age of 57.5. We study how this exemption affected the job finding rates of the recipients involved. Our results indicate that the job finding rate starts to fall just prior to the removal of the search requirement at age 57.5. In addition we find a large negative effect on job finding rates of the actual removal of the search requirement at age 57.5. Apparently, even for persons with seemingly poor job prospects search requirements have a positive effect on finding rates. 相似文献

ABSTRACTDespite substantial evidence for the negative effect of turnover on performance, several studies also note offsetting positive effects hereby recognizing an optimal rate of turnover. These mixed results stress the need to examine under which conditions turnover is more harmful or beneficial to the organization. Using panel data from 30 divisions of the same agency, this study examines the impact of process conformance – the extent to which there are prescribed standards and rules related to the task. Research on the causes of conflict-induced migration is hindered by the lack of adequately disaggregated data. The underlying study overcomes this problem through the use of historical data on 164 prominent classical composers born after 1800. I analyze the impact of war on the probability to emigrate of composers, investigate the associated dynamics and shed light on the choice of a destination country in times of war. I find that the incidence of inter-state wars increases composers’ probability to emigrate by around 7 % and the incidence of intra-state wars by roughly 19 %. The results imply that conflict impacts the migration intensity with a lag of approximately 1 year. Furthermore, the choice of a destination country is significantly affected by the incidence of war and less efficient from a career’s point of view during war. Finally, I find heterogeneous responses to war based on individual’s quality. While the better composers are more likely to emigrate in times of peace, it is not so anymore if a war breaks out. Volatile factor cost developments urge manufacturing firms to increase production efficiency by building up facilities in multiple countries. Differing from previous work that examines the quality of individual locations for investment, the study evaluates the net present value, the growth option value, and the operational flexibility value of the existing production network to predict the establishment of a new site. The results on a sample of 352 German manufacturing firms suggest that the direction, uncertainty, and diversity of labor cost movements in the extant locations influence the propensity to set up a new production subsidiary. Analyzing the international production network after the expansion shows that the new location increases the value of the network regarding these dimensions. The purpose of this study was to qualitatively evaluate patients understanding and interpretation of the wording used in test
items of the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK). The TSK was developed to measure fear of movement in patients suffering from
low back pain. The TSK is being increasingly used for other pain conditions. Patients with sub-acute neck pain experience
problems while completing this questionnaire. The aim of this study was to elicit these problems. The study was conducted
within the framework of a randomised controlled trial. The Three-Step Test Interview (TSTI) was used to collect data on the
thoughts or considerations of respondents while completing the TSK. In the analysis, each transcribed interview was divided
into three segments. The thoughts and considerations were then analysed and categorised per item. During the TSTI two problems
were identified. One concerned the meaning of specific words used, like “dangerous” and “injury”. The other problem was that
several implicit assumptions within some items make it difficult for respondents to answer these items. It was concluded that
in the development and validation of questionnaires like the TSK, not only quantitative psychometric properties are important,

Finite sample distributions of studentized inequality measures differ substantially from their asymptotic normal distribution in terms of location and skewness. We study these aspects formally by deriving the second-order expansion of the first and third cumulant of the studentized inequality measure. We state distribution-free expressions for the bias and skewness coefficients. In the second part we improve over first-order theory by deriving Edgeworth expansions and normalizing transforms. These normalizing transforms are designed to eliminate the second-order term in the distributional expansion of the studentized transform and converge to the Gaussian limit at rate O(n−1). This leads to improved confidence intervals and applying a subsequent bootstrap leads to a further improvement to order O(n−3/2). In this article we argue that there is a great need in service quality research to develop better procedures for collecting, selecting and interpreting data on service quality. We argue that such a proce- dure should be qualitative in nature rather than quantitative. The focus for study must then be measuring the total service ex- perience from the (internal) customer's point of view. We suggest a new experience-based method for generating qualitative aspects of service experiences. With these qualitative aspects we have a base for measuring service quality.
