This article deals with the analysis of homophily and heterophily in ego-centred networks (personal networks). The analysis takes a dual approach. First it uses the classical definition of homophily (in this article called elementary homophily) to compare mutual ties between groups defined by employment status, age and city of residence. These analyses are then enriched by incorporating the level of affective proximity, thus forming what we have called specific homophily. The analysis of elementary homophily confirms the expected predominance of homophilous relationships over heterophilous ones. The analysis of specific homophily shows that inter-group relationships between close and intimate contacts follow similar patterns, whereas these differ substantially for relationships that are not at all close. The comparison of the two types of homophily shows a correspondence between high values in elementary homophily and high values in close and intimate relationships. 相似文献

Foundations (and philanthropy in general) have great political power in the United States and worldwide, yet this is hardly noted by political analysts or journalists. Their power is exerted in many ways, such as by funding progressive organizations and movements; sponsoring policy “think tanks” and organizations of public officials; influencing the political culture through media, academic researchers, and university programs (including public interest law in law schools); and co‐opting activists and potential rebels among the rich and poor. Because of their resources and prestige, they are powerful members of coalitions and collaborations with overt and covert government departments, U.N. agencies, universities, and nongovernmental organizations. Foundations have been major actors in the “Cold War,” which continues as the attempt to deflect any movement towards socialism here or abroad. Globalization has amplified the power of foundations, for many of the global institutions were created by foundations and continue to be fostered by them. The sponsorship of civil society institutions worldwide by private foundations, now with additional billions from governments and international governmental institutions, supports U.S. hegemony: military, political, and economic. We cannot know what the world would have been like absent foundation activities, but the current one does not appear to have a democratic, peaceful, or sustainable future. 相似文献

The economic returns of cluster policies have been recently called into question. Based on a “one size fits all” approach consisting in boosting R&D collaborations and reinforcing network density, cluster policies are suspected to have failed in reaching their objectives. The paper proposes to go back to the micro foundations of clusters in order to disentangle the links between the long run performance of clusters and their structural properties. We use a simple agent-based model to shed light on how individual motives to build knowledge relationships can give rise to emerging structures with different properties, which imply different innovation and renewal capacities. The simulation results are discussed in a micro-macro perspective, and motivate suggestions to reorient cluster policy guidelines towards more targeted public-funded incentives for R&D collaboration. 相似文献

A review of research addressing correlates of attitudes toward social responsibility of business leads to the conclusion that
little can currently be confidently stated concerning such correlates and that progress toward the understanding of relevant
linkages is largely dependent on the development of psychometrically adequate indices of social attitudes.
Using a sample of high level executives from a large number of industries, this paper examines various psychometric properties
of an index of social attitudes, the Social Attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ) (Aldag and Jackson, 1977) and considers relationships
of SAQ subscale scores to multiple measures of firm size and economic performance and to managerial demographic and social
psychological characteristics. Results of this study reflect favorably on psychometric integrity of the SAQ and reveal a complex
set of correlates of its subscales.

Of the instruments devised for measuring self-reported activation, those that consider arousal dimensions (energy and tension) and a third dimension (hedonic tone, or pleasure/displeasure) allow a complete evaluation of the subjective mood. The inventory prepared by Matthews (1987a), which also incorporates a composite general arousal scale made up of items from the principal arousal scales, is one of the most frequently used. The present study assesses the consistency of the four scales of the inventory by means of a confirmatory factor analysis model and version VIII of the Lisrel computer package, and also its stability at different times of day (09:00, 13:00, 17:00 and 21:00). The study sample was made up of 671 healthy university students (236 men/435 women) aged between 17 and 38. Our results confirm the accuracity of fit/goodness of fit of the inventory's three principal factors. However, in our view, the secondary arousal factor should be defined or omitted, since its configura tion was poor at all times of day that the inventory was tested. 相似文献

The ability to interpret fiscal data pertaining to patient outcomes, human resources, customer satisfaction, and financial positions is a vital evidenced-based nurse executive competency. The ability of nurse leaders to influence and contribute in health system executive decision making requires fluency in accounting, "the language of business." After examining challenges faced by nurse executives, faculty at the Loewenberg School of Nursing at the University of Memphis integrated intensive accounting education into a new executive MSN program. Woven throughout the management accounting course is the concept that accounting data must be relevant and accurate for use by organization decision makers. Evidence-based decision making is emphasized when teaching planning and control activities. In addition, fluency in accounting is enhanced which leads to greater skill in patient and nursing advocacy. As competency in management accounting increases through the semester, executive MSN students are encouraged to apply cost accounting course content to their practice settings and to analyze how planning or control activities improve quality outcomes. 相似文献

The Spanish telecommunications regulator recently introduced a capacity-based access system. Under this regulation, entrants
pay a flat charge for the interconnection circuits leased to the incumbent operator and are able to freely use these circuits
to provide telecommunications services. This paper determines the optimal capacity-based access charge in the presence of
time varying demand and capacity constraints and compares this regulation with the traditional time of use access system.
The analysis shows that either type of regulation allows the incumbent to recover its fixed costs and can promote the same
pattern of entry. Finally, the optimal capacity-based access charge when the entrant has market power is derived.
