In this discussion that took place at the 2017 University of Texas Private Equity conference, the moderator began by noting that since 2000, the fraction of the U.S. GDP produced by companies that are owned or controlled by global private equity firms has increased from 7% to 15%. What's more, today's PE firms have raised an estimated $1.5 trillion of capital that is now available for investing. And thanks in part to this abundance of capital, the prices of PE transactions have increased sharply, with EBITDA pricing multiples rising from about 8.8X in 2012 to 11.5X at the beginning of 2017. Partly as a consequence of such abundant capital and high transaction prices, the aggregate returns to U.S. private equity funds during this four‐year period have fallen below the returns to the stockholders of U.S. public companies. Nevertheless, the good news for private equity investors is that the best‐performing PE firms have continued their long history of outperforming the market. And the consistency of their performance goes a long way toward explaining why the overwhelming majority of the capital contributed by limited partners continues to be allocated to funds put together by these top‐tier PE firms. In this roundtable, a representative of one of these top‐tier firms joins the founder of a relatively new firm with a middle‐market focus in discussing the core competencies and approaches that have enabled the best PE firms to increase the productivity and value of their portfolio companies. Effective financial management—the ability to manage leveraged capital structures and the process of readying their companies for sale to potential strategic or financial investors—is clearly part of the story. But more fundamental and critical to their success has been their ability to find undervalued or undermanaged assets—and either retain or recruit operating managements that, when effectively monitored and motivated, are able to realize the potential value of those assets through changes in strategy and increases in operating efficiency.  相似文献

Aims: This study aimed to examine the long-term clinical and economic burden of adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD) in Hong Kong.

Methods: It retrospectively analyzed 336 consecutive ACHD patients who attended the Adult Congenital Heart Clinic between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2014. Direct medical costs and clinical outcomes over the 5 years were calculated and documented. The economic evaluation was from the hospital’s perspective.

Results: The median age of ACHD patients was 47 (31–62) years old, with female predominance (61.5%). Ventricular and atrial septal defects accounted for 70% and severe ACHD for 10% of the study cohort. The prevalence of arrhythmia and heart failure increased with the complexity of CHD. The total mean annual cost for managing each ACHD patient was USD 2,913. The annual cost of management of simple ACHD was USD 2,638 vs complex ACHD (USD 6,425) (p?=?0.013).

Conclusions: This study demonstrated severe ACHD patients accounted for higher cardiovascular morbidities in arrhythmias and heart failure with a higher cost of management.  相似文献

Trust is important in that it facilitates relational exchanges by permitting partners to transcend short-run inequities or risks to concentrate on long-term profits or gains. This study investigates what factors affect the trust between distribution-channel members, principally those between Korean IT firms and their exporting partners in China. We suggest that factors affecting trust include reputation, size, expertise, length of the relationship, communication, and satisfaction with previous outcomes of conflict episodes. Data were collected through a survey of 128 Korean IT firms, which have export-transaction relationships with Chinese buyers. The data strongly support the research hypotheses. As hypothesized, the results of data analysis show that reputation, communication, and satisfaction with previous outcomes tend to enhance trust. Additionally, we noticed that trust seems to decrease as the experience of conflict episodes increases.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is twofold. First, it attempts to explore the factors contributing to the brand values of Taiwan??s financial service companies. Second, it aims to examine the value relevance of their brand equity. Our empirical findings from OLS regression show that advertising expenditure in banking firms have positive significant effects on brand evaluation and that the brand equity of banking firms is positively related to their market value. The general findings remain valid when we apply conditional quantile regressions to re-examine these relationships. Moreover, the quantile estimates indicate that the factor of brand loyalty could bring benefits to the banks with lower levels of brand equity. However, brands do not offer insights into the banks that have extremely low market capitalization.  相似文献

In spite of an increasing number of studies on ethical climate, little is known about the antecedents of ethical climate and the moderators of the relationship between ethical climate and work outcomes. The present study conducted firm-level analyses regarding the relationship between chief executive officer (CEO) ethical leadership and ethical climate, and the moderating effect of climate strength (i.e., agreement in climate perceptions) on the relationship between ethical climate and collective organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Self-report data were collected from 223 CEOs and 6,021 employees in South Korea. The results supported all study hypotheses. As predicted, CEOs?? self-rated ethical leadership was positively associated with employees?? aggregated perceptions of the ethical climate of the firm. The relationship between ethical climate and firm-level collective OCB was moderated by climate strength. More specifically, the relationships between ethical climate and interpersonally directed collective OCB and between ethical climate and organizationally directed collective OCB were more pronounced when climate strength was high than when it was low. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are addressed herein.  相似文献

Fintech is touted as a game changing, disruptive innovation capable of shaking up traditional financial markets. This article introduces a historical view of fintech and discusses the ecosystem of the fintech sector. We then discuss various fintech business models and investment types. This article illustrates the use of real options for fintech investment decisions. This work examines how the strategic choice and performance of late movers are influenced by the top management team's external ties, inside and outside the firm's industry. Using a multiyear sample of firms from the computer industry, we found that intra-industry trade-association ties of top managers led to the adoption of a resource-imitation strategy by late movers while extra-industry importation and professional-association ties led to the adoption of a resource-substitution strategy. We also found that trade association ties had a negative effect on the performance of late movers using resource-substitution, while top managers' service on other firms' boards had a positive influence on the performance of those firms. Our findings not only confirm the importance of the role of fit in strategy and performance, but they also highlight the importance of the management and control of boundary-spanning activities.  相似文献

To investigate the role of strategic political communication in governing, this study comprehensively examined presidential agenda-building associations at three levels during the first six months of U.S. president Barack Obama’s second term. Multiple presidential information subsidies, national news content, and policymaking activity were monitored. The results revealed solid support for all three levels of agenda-building (i.e., object salience, attribute salience, and network associations among objects or attributes), but the linkages with media coverage and policymaking were not uniform across information subsidy types. Based on the analysis, presidential news releases, blog posts, and presidential speeches were the most effective all-around strategic agenda-building tools for media management and policymaking purposes during this time period.
