State consumer protection agencies provide alternatives for consumer inquiries and for redress when consumers are unable to obtain satisfaction. In this study, the major objectives were to determine whether consumers used the services of the Kentucky Consumer Protection Division, the frequency of contact, the method of contact, the satisfaction/dissatisfaction with handling of inquiries or complaints and characteristics of inquirers/complainers. Four different surveys were used to obtain the data. The data analysis indicated that a large percentage of those who made inquiries or complained were satisfied. However, only a small percentage of the consumers had contacted the CPD, and very few used the hotline in making requests or complaints. Those who had contacted the CPD were younger, better educated and had higher incomes. Among the recommendations are that increased efforts be made to publicize the hotline and other CPD services. 相似文献

Data from the 1986 Consumer Expenditure Survey were used to examine the relationship between wife's employment and spending on services that are expected to be sensitive to the value of time. Tobit regression analysis indicated that wife's employment status was influential in explaining expenditure on food away from home, child care and total services only. The purpose of this research was to measure the temperature achieved in, and the microbiological count of, chicken burgers cooked following the preparation instructions given by the manufacturers. The work investigates the cooking of chicken burgers, manufactured by four different companies, cooked at different positions under a grill. Three appliances were used. Each showed uneven distribution of heat and a hot position and cool position was established for each grill. Differences in the temperature of the burgers cooked at different positions on the grills were also found. The burgers at the cool position attained a much lower cooking temperature and had a higher number of microorganisms surviving the cooking. The grill that produced the highest temperatures in the burgers had the lowest number of organisms surviving in the burgers. Only 24 out of the 72 burgers cooked to the manufacturers' instructions attained temperatures above 70°C. Some of the burgers appeared to be cooked when visibly assessed, but the core temperatures were low and had high microbial counts. A random sample of American elementary school educators, representing all but three of the 50 United States, responded to a questionnaire designed to ascertain: (1) their opinions concerning the inclusion of food and nutrition concepts in the elementary school curriculum; (2) their actual practices concerning the teaching of food and nutrition in the elementary classroom: and (3) their needs for elementary food and nutrition teaching materials. The results suggested that nutrition was the food and nutrition concept area most highly valued in relation to the education of young children and the concept area most frequently taught in American elementary classrooms; it also represented the concept area most in need of the development of teaching materials. In recent years outlays on the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme have increased rapidly, prompting both attempts by government to reduce growth in outlays and renewed interest in the characteristics of the beneficiaries of the Scheme. This article uses a microsimulation model to analyse the distributional impact of Australian Government outlays on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, by such characteristics as family income, family type, age, sex and lifecycle group. We find that there are pronounced distributional effects by such characteristics as income, age and sex, with both older and poorer Australians receiving far greater PBS benefits than younger and more affluent Australians. 相似文献
