A simple estimator for the correlated random coefficient model

This note presents an estimator for the linear correlated random coefficient model which is an extension of Garen's (1984) selectivity bias method. The choice between the proposed estimator and IV estimation reflects a trade-off between efficiency and first-stage reduced form robustness.     

Identifying News Shocks from SVARs

This paper investigates the reliability of SVARs in identifying the dynamic effects of news shocks. Using a simple but insightful model with a non-fundamental representation, we show analytically under which conditions SVARs are likely to be successful at identifying news shocks. We find that the dynamic responses to news shocks identified using a short-run restriction are biased. However, this bias is smaller if news shocks account for most of the variability of the endogenous variable and the economy exhibits strong forward-looking behavior. Our simulation experiments confirm this finding and further suggest that the number of lags in the VAR and the anticipation horizon are key ingredients for the success of the VAR setup.     

Managerial ability and bank‐loan pricing

This paper examines the impact of borrowers’ managerial ability on lenders’ bank‐loan pricing and the channels through which managerial ability affects bank‐loan pricing. Using a large sample of US bank loans, we provide evidence that higher managerial ability is associated with lower bank‐loan prices. This effect is stronger in firms with high information risk, suggesting that an important channel for managerial ability to affect bank‐loan pricing is through improved financial disclosure to mitigate information asymmetry. The relationship is also stronger for firms with weak business fundamentals, implying that another channel is through improved business performance. Of these two mechanisms, path analysis suggests that the business‐fundamentals mechanism is the more important channel through which managerial ability affects bank‐loan pricing.     

我国新农村建设中法律援助制度探析

法律援助制度在我国社会主义新农村建设中意义重大,我们应超越个人利益、阶层利益的局限,站在时代、历史、发展、民族振兴的高度来看待我国法律援助制度在社会主义新农村建设中的作用:法律援助制度的建立健全有利于农村社会生产力的解放,有利于促进农业和农村经济的发展,有利于又好又快地建设生产发展、生活宽裕的社会主义新农村;有助于公民法制意识的强化,有利于促进社会正义,加快农村的民主法治进程;有助于社会不同阶层间的交流,尤其是加强群众与政府的交流,加强民主管理;有助于保持农村的安定团结和社会稳定。法律援助制度是保障人权,维护社会公平、正义的必然要求,是建设社会主义新农村的重要司法保障。因此深入分析农村实施法律援助制度以来存在的问题,并有针对性地提出健全农村法律援助制度的对策建议很有必要。总体来说,我国的法律援助制度尚处于初建阶段,随着我国法制建设的进一步发展,法律援助制度也将不断发展和完善。     

面向内陆保税港区的保税物流人才培养研究

鉴于内陆保税物流人才需求的紧迫性,通过调研总结了保税物流人才的职业道德、能力结构、经营意识、创新理念等四个素质要求,发现现有的多种培养渠道无法较好培养优秀人才。由此,结合我校保税物流人才培养模式,从新的视角地提出了教育服务联盟构建、人才培养方案定制、教育服务传递系统整合、人才培养质量动态评价等培养途径。
