A firm's structural position within corporate networks may affect the extent to which it engages in boundary stretching practices. Since social norms support low CEO compensation, offering high CEO compensation in China can be seen as a boundary stretching practice. Setting up a compensation committee (CC) may be viewed as a form of symbolic management in China. We argue that firms operating within central corporate network positions opt to pay higher CEO compensation without engaging in symbolic management. On the other hand, firms operating in structural hole positions tend to either pay lower CEO compensation or use CCs as a symbolic management tool in order to pay higher CEO compensation. The aim of this paper is to analyze the significance of firm-specific and pooled earnings response coefficients in the Brazilian market. The lag structure of earnings-return relations is also analyzed. The sample consists of 61 Brazilian public firms that represent all firms with a minimum of seven continual data from 1995 to 2008. The analysis is based on linear regressions of two different proxies of earnings and two different proxies of return. The results show that, for firm-regressions, few companies presented a significant relationship between earnings and stock returns, and for some firms a negative coefficient was found. In the pooled regressions a positive and statistically significant coefficient was found, and the tests suggest that variance in cross-sectional observation is more relevant in explaining the earnings response coefficient than the time-series variance. 相似文献

This article presents a study of the adoption of a knowledge and technology transfer model at the Center for Research in Mathematics in Guanajuato state, Mexico, in order to define the model that would produce the best outcomes for establishing a transfer relationship with industry, the government, and academia. The transfer of organizational models and practices is a phenomenon that occurs frequently in dynamic globalized organizational contexts that underpin ongoing quests for greater and faster development, while also adapting and exchanging innovative products and services. This article presents theoretical input from specialized entities and authors focused on knowledge and technology transfers at universities and research centers. The methodological strategy used in these research projects adopts a qualitative approach, with the study of an explanatory case study being the methodological tool, together with document analyses and semi-structured interviews. After the results have been obtained, the mechanisms used by the Center were identified for relating to the production sector, noting that this relationship involves high-level direct transfers. Positive outcomes were found that benefitted the Center and the company studied, underscoring the importance of government research centers having a knowledge and technology transfer model allowing identification of the contextual, technical and structural conditions that shape underlying transfer relationship at this Center, as well as the surrounding regions. 相似文献

Using microdata and grouped data that cover the period 1996 to 2006, we assess the extent to which cohabiting women adjust their labour supply to a lesser extent, if any, than married women in response to changes in male wages. Both microdata regressions and grouping estimators unambiguously indicate that cohabiting women respond less to variation in male wages than married women. However, the magnitude of the difference is not sizeable. We also assess the magnitude of married men's and cohabiting men's own wage elasticities and find that they do not differ much. Combined with the fact that male earnings account for roughly two-thirds of family earnings, these two findings explain why the impact of changes in male wages on family earnings is very similar for married couples and cohabiting couples: in both cases, a 10% decline in male wages appears to induce roughly a 6% drop in family earnings. 相似文献
